ICA AGM The Annual General Meeting of Borris in Ossory ICA Guild took place on Wednesday night April 4, presided over by Helen Kavanagh.
The Federation Information Officer Betty Gorman was welcomed to the AGM. Also welcomed was guest Teresa Cuddy from Castletown guild and a new member Pat Brophy. The secretary, Noreen Whelan, read a detailed report of all the guild’s activities during the past year and the treasurer Valerie St Leger gave an account of the guild’s financial situation. The President, Helen Kavanagh, thanked all the members for their help and co-operation and for their financial support to all the guild’s fundraising projects. She had a special word of thanks for the secretary Noreen Whelan and the treasurer Valerie St Leger and all other officers who worked so hard during the year.
Information Officer Betty Gorman was present to oversee the election of officers and the following officers were elected for the coming year, President - Helen Kavanagh, Vice President – Margaret Jestin, Hon Secretary - Noreen Whelan, Hon Treasurer - Valerie St Leger, P.R.O. – Lily Sheeran, An Grianan Rep – Nuala Costello, Contests Secretary – Florrie Foley, Membership Secretary – Teresa Lalor, Tour Co-ordinator - Lily Sheeran and Hostess – Mai Clare.
Betty congratulated the guild and wished the members every success for the coming year. A report was given on the Art/Craft day in Portarlington which was attended by one of the members. Arrangements were made for members to attend the Federation meeting in Arles and the Federation Dinner Dance in the Gandon Inn. Laois Week at An Grianan was discussed and it is hoped that some members will attend.
The competition was won by Kitty Foyle, 2nd Noreen Whelan and the raffle winners were Kitty Foyle, Nancy Fagan, Anne O’Sullivan and Margaret Jestin.
The meeting ended with the President wishing all the members a very Happy Easter. The next meeting will take place on Wednesday May 2 and the competition will be the Nicest Thimble. The tea hostesses will be Nuala Costello and Pat Kelly. Members should note that it has been decided to revert back to the earlier starting time of 8pm.
The guild’s weekend away this year will from Sunday July 29 to Wednesday August 1and the venue will be Belfast. Staying at a four star hotel, the trip will include a visit to the Titanic Exhibition and the sights of Belfast. There will also be a day spent touring the Antrim coast. Full details will be announced in the near future.
The gardening group will meet on this Thursday April 12 in St Canice’s Hall. New members will be welcome to come along and pick up tips and advice on how to improve the garden in 2012. Please note the new time of 8.30pm.
Borris in Ossory Youth Club will meet on this Friday, April 13 at the usual time of 7.30pm. The club, in association with Ossory Youth and Youth Work Ireland are taking part in a 5km Fun run/Walk on Sunday April 22 at Kilkenny Castle. This event is a celebration of Youth Work Ireland’s 50 Year Anniversary and also being used as a fundraiser for Borris in Ossory Youth Club. All Youth club members have received sponsorship cards and all support would be much appreciated. A €30 Lifestyle voucher will be presented to the club member who raises the most money for club funds. Sponsorship cards and money should be returned by Friday April 20.
The Fun run/Walk is also open to non-members who wish to take part, anyone interested should contact Canice Sheeran at 087 2071267 for an entry form.
Borris in Ossory Cycling Club are taking part in the Midlands Charity Cycle Tour on Saturday and Sunday, May 19 and 20 in aid of Spina Bifida and Pieta House Suicide Awareness (Roscrea Branch). On Saturday the tour will set off for Athlone taking in Mountrath Portlaoise, Mountmellick, and Tullamore and will return to Borris-In-Ossory on Sunday through Ferbane, Cloghan , Birr and Roscrea. Sponsorship cards are currently being filled by all cyclists and all support will be gratefully received.
DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY
A bus will travel to Knock Shrine for Divine Mercy Sunday on April 15. The bus will be in the Square, Rathdowney at 8am, Borris in Ossory at 8.30am and Roscrea at 9am. For further details contact Michael Sutcliffe at 089-4620860.
Killasmeestia ICA Guild held its Annual General Meeting in the Community Centre on Thursday April 5, presided over by Margaret Ryan. Information Officer Helen Kavanagh was present to oversee the election of officers. The secretary Shirley Stanley, in her report, outlined all the activities of the guild since the last AGM and the treasurer Betty Bergin presented the financial report for the year.
Officers elected for the coming year are President - Margaret Ryan, Vice President – Mary Keane, Hon Secretary - Shirley Stanley, Hon Treasurer - Betty Bergin, P.R.O. – Carol Sinnott, Competitions Secretary – Frances Lalor.
Details of the Laois Federation AGM and the Annual ICA Dinner / Dance were read to the members. Margaret Ryan reported on the Art/Craft Day in Portarlington and displayed the model she had made there. Arrangements were made for the guild’s summer outing. Sympathy is extended to Mrs Kitty Moore, Kilmartin, Borris in Ossory on the recent death of her brother, the late Thomas (Tommy) White Jnr, Castlefleming, Errill. His death took place on Friday March 23 at the Regional Hospital, Tullamore. His remains reposed at O’Sullivan’s Funeral Home, Rathdowney until removal on Saturday evening to Errill Church. His Funeral Mass took place on Sunday March 25, followed by burial in Bealady Cemetery.
The late Tommy, who suffered a long illness, is deeply regretted by his father Thomas, brothers, sisters, uncle, aunt-in-law, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family and friends
