Portlaoise MARKET A free shuttle bus will take people around the town of Portlaoise this Saturday, April 14 as part of the street market and entertainment that will be taking place on Main Street.

In celebration of the inauguaration of Liam O’Neill as president of the GAA, the local Downtown Traders group in conjunction with Laois County Council, hope to have a street party atmosphere as Main Street will be closed from 9am to 5pm from the courthouse to Shaws.

A great family day out is promised with special offers in local shops, market stalls, street entertainment and music.

The A.G.M. took place on Wednesday night, April 4 at the Sue Ryder Centre presided over by Mary Ging Information Officer.

Officers elected for the coming year: President Stella Harding; Secretary Ann Payne and Treasurer Ursula Siddle. The winners of the easter draw for hampers and leg of lamb 1st Timmy Shiel, 2nd Morgan Meehan, 3rd Brian Hogan. Prizes were presented to the competition winners for year 2011-2012: 1st Stella Harding, joint 2nd Frances Carroll and Caroline Shiel

Competition winners on the night were: 1st Marion Lawless, 2nd Maureen Delaney and 3rd Stella Harding.

Competition for next month -animal made from veg or fruit.

Our next meeting takes place on May 2 at 8pm when final arrangements will be made for our outing to Drogheda to see the Three Tenors on May 11. Please bring balance on the night.

DRUGS AWARENESS MEETINGS

Laois Local Drugs Network will hold information evenings across the county in association with Laois GAA. The evenings will provide parents/ guardians as well as those working with young people with practical information on the signs of substance abuse as well as information on youth and sports activities available for young people in each location.

The Local Drugs Network will also hand out its recently published booklet containing relevant up to date information on drugs services available in Laois. The events are open to all and free of charge. The Portlaoise meeting takes place on Wednesday, April 11 at the Portlaoise GAA Club.

DIVINE MERCY MASS

There will be a divine mercy Mass at St Peter and Pauls Church on Sunday, April 15. Confessions at 2.30pm, Mass at 3pm. Parish shop open. Celebrant is Fr Thady Doyle and all are very welcome.

MINI MARATHON

To date 30 ladies from the Heath and surrounding area have registered for the Flora Womans Mini Mararhon in aid of the Heath NS organised by the Parents Council. To join in the fun contact Aideen Keyes at 0868272407 by Saturday, April 14. Bus will be provided.

WHEELCHAIR FUNDRAISING

The Laois Branch of the Irish Wheelchair Association church gate collections on the weekend of April 14/15; street collection, Portlaoise, June 1 and 2.
