Good Friday: Commemoration of the Lord’s Passion SS Peter & Paul’s Church - 4pm & 7.30pm; The Heath & Ratheniska: 8pm; Stations of the Cross outdoor stations commencing at 3pm at the top of O’ Moore Place and ending in the Parish Church. Parish Church Prayer around the Cross at 9pm Parish Church open until midnight for time of quiet prayer at foot of the Cross.

The Laois Branch of the the Irish Kidney Association will mount an Organ Donor Awareness campaign at several locations during the week commencing March 30. Laois Patients have benefited directly from organ donations in the past year with at least 3 kidney transplants in the Portlaoise area alone. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Fatima coffee

Coffee morning & cake sale takes place in Portlaoise Parish Centre after 10am Mass on Wednesday, March 27, in aid of The Fatima Pilgrimage Invalid Fund 2013. youth cafe appeal

The young people of Portlaoise’s new Youth Cafe have some equipment but we could do with a lot more and it doesn’t have to be brand spanking new. Maybe you have something at home that you don’t use any more?! We would love some Cd’s, DVDs and computer games for PS3, Xbox, Wii for Under 18s, Any working music equipment or anything else that you think we might like & use in the Youth Cafe! We know the people of Laois are very generous so thank you in advance. Also, a huge thank you to those of you who have already generously donated to us. 50+ Active Age Group

Aprils events: 3rd interesting talk “Key to Life”; 10th gardening advice plus questions and answers at homebase; 17th meeting cancelled. (Donegal Trip 15-19 April); 24th Activities day. Rehearsals for Bealtanna Festival at the Parish Centre.

Every Tuesday: Choir practice 3-4 pm. Every Wednesday: Dancing 1.30 - 2.30 pm. New members always welcome. Just come along any Wednesday 3pm. For more info contact Andy 057 8621571.

There was no winner of the Portlaoise Parish Lotto jackpot when the numbers were drawn on Thursday, March 21. The match 3s won €72 each. Numbers drawn were: 8,9,19,30. Next week’s jackpot is €13,000.

Table quiz

Table quiz in aid of DEBRA Ireland takes place on Thursday, March 28 in Kavanagh’s pub, Main St,Portlaoise at 8.30pm. €40 Per table of 4.

County Swimming finals are to be held in Portlaoise Leisure centre on Saturday, March 30 at 10 am sharp. Register before handwith cordinators. There is a €3 charge per swimmer

Divine Mercy

Portlaoise Parish requests that Trocaire collection boxes for the Lenten campaign be brought to Mass on Holy Thursday. Please place in basket in church and the donation will be brought to the altar at the Offertroy.


Condolences to the family of the late Patrick ‘Pascal’ O’Brien, Railway Street, Portlaoise, who passed away on March 16 (peacefully), at Portlaoise hospital. Deeply regretted by his loving brothers Kevin and Seamus, sister Mary, extended famliy, relatives and friends. Requiem Mass in SS Peter and Paul’s Church, Portlaoise, followed by Interment in SS Peter and Paul’s Cemetery.


Condolences to the family of the late Terry Tierney of Kilminchy, Portlaoise who passed away on March 20 peacefully, at the Midlands Regional Hospital, Portlaoise, Beloved husband of the late Kathleen and much loved father of Thomas, Sheila, PJ, Denis and Stephanie he is also sadly missed extended family, relatives and friends. Reposed his son PJ’s residence in Grenville with removal to SS Peter and Paul’s Church for Requiem Mass. Interment immediately afterwards in SS Peter and Paul’s Cemetery.
