WEDDING BELLS FOR ANGELA AND TOM

Wedding bells rang out in the Church of the Sacred Heart, Stradbally on Friday, March 15, on the occasion of the marriage between Miss Angela Casey, daughter of Noel and Liz, Rathmore, Stradbally and Tom McDonald, son of Tom and Breda McDonald, Derryguile, Mountmellick. Fr Sean Kelly was the chief celebrant, assisted by Fr Aughney and Fr Dunphy. Organist/soloists at the ceremony were The Nolan brothers from Edenderry. The bride was attended by her sisters Mary Gorman and Nuala Meade as her bridesmaids, while Aoife and Ciara Gorman, Edel Meade and Maeve McDonald were her flowergirls. The bestman was John McDonald while Michael McDonald was the groomsman and the pageboy was Jamie Gorman. The reception for 270 guests was held in the Tullamore Court Hotel and the happy couple are spending their honeymoon in Florida.

LATE MARY FINGLETON

The occurred (peacefully) in the loving care of the matron, nurses and staff of Lourdesville Nursing Home, Kildare on March 15 of Mrs Mary Fingleton, (formerly of Ballinclea House, Stradbally. Mary, aged 105 years is deeply regretted by her sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, relatives and friends. Her remains were removed from Lourdesville Nursing Home on Saturday at 11am to the Church of the Sacred Heart, Stradbally, for 12 noon requiem mass and interment took place afterwards in Oakvale Cemetery.

EASTER STEAM TRAIN RIDES

The Irish Steam Preservation Sociey’s Narrow Gauge Railway will have full steam up on Sunday, March 31 and Monday, April 1 from 1pm - 4pm each day.

CRUMLIN CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL WHIST DRIVE

The recent whist drive held in aid of Crumlin Children’s Hospital held in St Patrick’s Hall, Stradbally on March 15 raised a sum of €2,160. Grateful appreciation to everyone who either gave cash or raffle prizes and to all who played. A special word of thanks to the St Patrick’s committee for the use of the hall and also to all who helped in the kitchen and supplied sandwiches and other goodies.

THE LATE EDWARD (NED) WHELAN

The death has occurred of Edward (Ned) Whelan, of 13 Brockley Park, Stradbally and formerly Ballinclea, Timahoe, Stradbally, Laois peacefully at Portlaoise regional hospital. He is sadly missed by his partner Molly Lawlor, brothers Dinny and Pat. sister Julie, nieces, nephews, family and friends. His remains were reposing at the Presentation Chapel, Stradbally on Tuesday and following requiem mass at 12 noon on Wednesday in the Sacred Heart Church, Stradbally interment took place in Saint Michael’s Cemetery, Timahoe.

FORESTRY FESTIVAL FOR STRADBALLY

The Irish Forestry, Woodland and Bio Energy Show 2013 will take place at Stradbally Hall Estate on Friday and Saturday, May 10 and 11. The show will host the National Tree Climbing Championships and will feature the top tree surgeons competing for a place to represent their country at European and World events.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH MEETING

A meeting of the Stradbally Neighbourhood Watch will be held on Thursday, March 28 (Holy Thursday) in St Coleman’s National School after 7.30pm sermons.

Holy Thursday (housebound of the parish will be attended). Mass of the Last Supper, washing of feet and confessions after mass, Vicarstown 7pm, Stradbally 7.30pm. First Communion children invited with their candles, Timahoe 8pm. Good Friday Passion of the Lord, 11.10 Stations of the Cross in Oakvale Woods, Stradbally 3pm, Vicarstown 7pm and Timahoe 7.30pm. Holy Saturday, Easter Vigil, 9am (Stradbally) blessing of fire, pascal candle and Easter water. Bring a candle for renewal of baptism promises. Easter Sunday, Stradbally 8am and 11.30am, Vicarstown 9.30am and Timahoe 10.30am.

LAOIS HUNT HUNTER TRIALS

The Laois Hunt Hunter Trials will be held on Easter Saturday, March 30, at Stradbally Hall.

CAKE SALE IN AID OF COSBY NS

A cake sale in aid of the Cosby National School will be held at the Hunter Trials in Stradbally Hall on Easter Saturday, March 30 from 10am to 2pm.

STRADBALLY FLOWER AND GARDEN CLUB

Angela Behan O’Carroll will be back to give the Easter demonstration on Wednesday, March 27 (Holy Week) and all her displays will be raffled at the end of the evening. This is also an open night.

LAOIS FLEADH 2013

TREE PLANTING

Stradbally Spade Brigade planting of trees at the Stradbally Community Gardens (beside the allotments) has been postponed until Friday, April 26 and Saturday 27 commencing at 12 noon due to site clearance work that was not finished for some of the larger tree planting sites around the country.
