EASTER EGG HUNT
Our annual Easter Egg Hunt will take place in Ballypickas GAA Grounds at 4pm on Easter Monday, April 1 for all kids up to 12 years – goodie bags for every child and prizes. Weather permitting - please check Ballypickas GAA Facebook page for updates. All welcome!
Durrow Abbeyleix Macra would like to wish both our men and women’s basketball teams the best of luck in the upcoming Macra na Feirme basketball finals in UL Limerick on May 24. Both teams won the county round of the competition and will now represent Laois in the competition. An exhibition takes place in Abbeyleix Library for the month of March showcasing these talented artists. Trudi Killeen is a landscape, watercolour artist. She is also accomplished in detailed line drawings many of which were used by the Irish Times in conjunction with historical articles written by her husband John Killeen during the 1980’s. In 2005 Trudi and John retired to live in Heywood Village, where Trudi has captured the beautiful Heywood Gardens, and its environs in her collection of water colour paintings. Trudi is currently working on a small collection of ‘Hunt’ pictures, set in the historical town of Abbeyleix.
The Gathering of Heywood Class of ‘93” will take place this Easter Saturday night (30th March) in Morrissey’s Pub (back room areas), Abbeyleix. This gathering of the 1993 year includes students who would have graduated in 1993 and would have attended Brigidine Covent, Laois Vocational School in Abbeyleix, Presentation Sisters, Durrow and the Salesians College, Ballinakill. All former classmates of that year have been contacted by the organisers Melissa Cole & Lorna Galvin and a very enthusiastic response was received. A great number of the classmates are travelling from all around Ireland, England, Wales & America to attend their gathering and there will be a lot of reminiscing, photos, 90’s music and much more on the night. The excitement is sure to be “electrifying”. Information regarding the Gathering of Heywood Class of ‘93 can be found on the gathering website thegatheringireland.com. The AGM of Abbeyleix Women’s Development Group Limited will take place on April 11. The venue is the Enterprize Centre, Mountrath Rd, Abbeyleix. All members are requested to attend. Membership fee for 2013 is now due.
St Patricks Day Parade
Congratulations to the Cleland family and the organizing committee for a fantastic parade. Threre were 60 floats representing business,sporting clubs, and groups from a great cross section of the community, Arts, crafts and food producers street traders added greatly to the pagentry on the day.
Abbeyleix Tidy Towns have been shortlisted for the Green Awards in the National Green Community awards category. Rossmore Dairy have been shortlisted in The Green Food Producer section, and Susanne Mc Cabe in The Green Corporate Citizen Award section a great result for the County. The Awards ceremony will take place in Dublin in mid April.
