The club would like to offer our condolences to the Graham family on the recent passing of John Graham. As the season gets under way we would like to thank all who made he 2012/2013 season such as success. The club celebrates our 40th anniversary this coming season and we currently field ten teams at all age groups.
Under age registration night is in the Green School on Friday August 16, from 7 to 8.30pm. Registration fee is €25 per player and €10 for additional family members. It’s important that all players attend as the league starts in two weeks. All new players from local and other areas are very welcome, please bring a copy of your birth certificate and a passport photo. Please note: U8’s born 2006, U9’s born 2005, U10’s born 2004, U11’s born 2003, U12’s born 2002, U13’s born 2001, U14’s born 2000 and U16’s born 1998. Training will commence the following week. Hundreds of dancers from the four corners of Ireland and as far away as Japan, attended the Festival of Dance in Community Centre Ballyfin recently. The music was tuneful and hearty so a wonderful weekend of dance, good food and fun was enjoyed by all. This event was in conjunction with the Gathering. Plans are already in place for 2014 and classes will resume in September for anyone wishing to learn the joy of set dancing.
As part of Mountmellick Heritage Week a bus is going to Lullymore Heritage Park for their Heritage Week Open Day on Sunday August 18. Departing O’Connell Square, Mountmellick at 1pm, returning at 6pm. Cost is €5 pp, entry to Lullymore is free. Bus is subsidised by Mountmellick Heritage Society. Advance booking is essential. Mountmellick Heritage Society has organised a ‘Famine Tour’. Departing O’Connell Square, Mountmellick by bus at 9am and returning mid afternoon, it will take in many heritage & famine sites including a tour of the site of the former workhouse.
