Late matthew finn

Condolences to the family of the late Matthew Finn Graigue, Rathdowney who passed away on October 13 (peacefully), in the loving care of the nurses and staff of the Sacred Heart Nursing Home, Crosspatrick. Deeply regretted by his sister Kitty, neighbours, relatives and friends. Reposed at O’Sullivan’s Funeral Home, Rathdowney, followed by Removal to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Galmoy, for funeral mass on Wednesday followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.


Ageing with confidence course for anyone over 50 is being held in the Marion Centre every Tuesday morning from 10am to 12.30pm. Commencing on Tuesday October 22, for 8 weeks.


For over 55s are being held in Scoil Bhride every Wednesday from 3.30pm to 5.30pm. Commencing on Wednesday October 23 for 6 weeks.


Will be taught by Maureen Culleton in the community centre every Thursday morning from 11am to 1pm. Commencing on Thursday October 24, for 6 weeks. The above courses are all at the cost of €2 per class, courtesy of Laois Partnership, please contact Pauline on 087 6572701 as places are limited.

Give blood

Help ensure essential blood supplies are always available by giving blood regularly. You can donate on Thursday October 24 at Scoil Bhride, Rathdowney from 4.30 to 8pm.


A great bingo is held every Tuesday night at 8.30pm in the Rathdowney Community Centre. Your support would be greatly appreciated. Bingo is run by the Community Centre Group.


As part of the children’s book festival local author Michael Creagh will visit on Tuesday October 22 at 2.30pm. This would suit the older generation, the active retirement group will attend but this is open to anyone interested. On Wednesday October 23, Michael Creagh will visit for the local schools, this would suit fifth and sixth classes but all are welcome. For those interested in some winter training, turbo training classes will commence on Wednesday October 9 in the Marion centre at 8pm sharp. The only criteria is that you must have your own turbo trainer. Cost of training €1 per night.

OCC are also holding a cycling coaching session on Sunday November 3, in the GAA centre Rathdowney. There will be two coaches one for the A group and one for the B group. Each cyclist will get individual attention and tips. Cost of course is €15. All are welcome


On Sunday the October 27 OCC are holding a 70K leisure cycle starting and finishing in Errill village. Entry fee is a donation. This will be strictly a controlled event, max speed of 25K per hour or 15 mph. Start time 11am. The route Clonmore, Templemore, Roscrea, Borris In Ossory, Rathdowney. There will be a barbecue for cyclists at the end.


Meet on Friday mornings 10-12 in the Marion Centre. All welcome parents and minders with children from new born to pre-school.
