THE LATE ANNE (NAN) HOLOHAN

The death occurred on Tuesday, March 4 of Anne (Nan) Holohan
, Newtown, Stradbally, Laois peacefully in the loving care of the Matron and Staff of St. Vincent’s Hospital, Mountmellick. Beloved wife of the late Peader and dear mother of the late Sean. Sadly missed by her loving family daughters Ann and Vera, sons-in-law and daughter-in-law, grandchildren, relatives and neighbours and friends. Her remains were reposing at the Presentation Chapel, Stradbally, Co. Laois from Wednesday last and following 11am requiem mass on Friday, her remains were interred in Oakvale Cemetery.

STRADBALLY AND DISTRICT ANGLERS ASSOCIATION

There was a great attendance at the annual general meeting of the Stradbally and District Anglers Association held last week. The following officers were elected for 2014: chairman Christy Dwyer, vice chairman Willie Rowe, secretary Larry Swayne, treasurer Gerry Kelly and the juvenile committee are Jordan Whelan, Sarah Sheehy, Eamon Delaney, Kera McCarthy and the youth officer is Willie Rowe.

WHIST DRIVE

The next whist drive is in St Patrick’s Hall on Friday, March 21 at 8.30pm.

A reminder that this is our 25th year as the parish of the three parades, Vicarstown 9am, Timahoe 10am and Stradbally 11 am.

VICARSTOWN RECREATIONAL GROUP AGM

The annual general meeting of the Vicarstown Recreational Group will be held on Wednesay, March 12 commencing at 8pm in the old community centre, Vicarstown.

STRADBALLY COUNTRY MARKETS AGM

Stradbally Country Markets are holding their AGM tonight, Tuesday March 11 commencing at 8.30pm in St Patricks Hall, Stradbally.

Stradbally Country Markets are held every Saturday in St Patrick’s Hall, Stradbally from 10.30am until 1pm.

STRADBALLY PARISH COMMUNITY EMPLOYMENT

The main aim of our parish schemes is to provide partial employment and retraining through work opportunities for those eligible who wish to apply. We cannot provide places on schemes unless we can identify community group that is suitable and allowed. Voluntary groups and suggestions to Liam Kelly, supervisor.

TIMAHOE LADIES

U/8, 10 and 12 training re-commences Saturday, March 22 at 10am in Stradbally GAA grounds and everyone welcome. Timahoe National School are having their cake sale on St Patrick’s Day, March 17 in the community hall. The hall will be open at 9.30am that morning and please support this very worthy cause.

OPEN MEETING

Is gambling an issue in your life? All welcome at the Parish Centre, Portlaoise on this Tuesday evening, March 11 at 8.30pm. This is a meeting for people who may think they have a problem with gambling and those affected by someone’s gambling. Speakers from both Gamblers Anonymous and Gam-anon. Gam-anon is a support group for concerned people. Refreshments served.
