the 30th edition of the Rathdowney Review is being compiled and will on sale from December 1. Anyone who has anything they wish to be published in the review should contact Betty O Brien, Maureen Guilfoyle or Niall O Doherty. The closing date is the end of October but the committee would appreciate any material to be submitted as soon as possible. The review especially welcomes weddings, anniversaries, graduations, sporting achievements, family profiles, poems etc. The 30th edition is expected to fill up very quickly. The committee wish to thank everyone who was involved with the Rathdowney Review in any way over the past 30 years.
CYMS snooker and billard hall are hold a Halloween Kids Disco on Friday October 31 from 7 -10pm in the Parochial Hall. Admission is €3, fancy dress optional, prize for the best dressed. All proceeds to the CYMS snooker club. The club is now re-open for the winter. Membership now due adults €20 juveniles €10, family €30. We look forward to meeting everyone again and for your valued support.

The Aware Support Group for people experiencing depression, anxiety, stress and other mood related conditions meets every Tuesday at 7.30pm in St. Peter and Pauls Parish Centre, Portlaoise. From Rathdowny National School (C of I) - Congratulations to the Rathdowney/Errill senior team on becoming the county champions once again. Our pupils continue to develop their hurling skills in the school with Andrew Kavanagh (team goalie) and are part of various GAA teams. We are so proud of our pupil Ross Handcock and the under 10 hurling team – winners of the recent hurling blitz in Durrow. Our senior children enjoyed performing with the Garda band in Ballacolla for the Aghaboe Abbey Concert last week.
There was no winner in this week’s Rathdowney GAA lotto Jackpot which was €5,500. The numbers drawn were 5, 9, 16, 24. The 10 winners of €15 were Mark Aylward, Mary Gray, Rosie Fitzpatrick, Mrs O’Dwyer, Mary Whelan, Nelly Bergin, Betty Delaney, Johnny Bowe, Paddy Bowe Snr, Saoirse Stenson. Next week’s Jackpot will €5,650. Tickets can be purchased from all shops or from any local promoter.
Many thanks to the staff of St. Fergal’s College for the donation of €107 raised in aid of Laois Hospice from their coffee morning on Friday 12th September.
Fire service night
Rathdowney Fire and Rescue Service open night is on Wednesday October 8, from 7pm to 9pm in the station. Please come along to see the specialised equipment they use. There will be a fire demonstration on the night.
A great Bingo, run by the Community Centre Group, is held every Tuesday Night at 8.30 in the Rathdowney Community Centre. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

The club will be having their presentation night on Saturday October 11 at 9.30 in Iano’s, can all outstanding cards be handed in to Iano’s or the Card Stand as soon as possible.

Trad for Trócaire
St Fergal’s College is involved in Trad for Trócaire every year and that is taking place nextThursday, October 9. This is a big annual event in the school where 6th class students from local primary schools and students of our own school are invited to listen to the school’s talented Trad band. Transition year students and the music department organise it and usually includes other activities such as a music themed Table Quiz. All money collected goes to Trocaire.
