COMMUNITY GAMES WINNER
Margaret Oxley of Stradbally Community Games recently won a bronze medal at the Community Games national finals for art. This is Margaret’s 4th national award, having won two silver and a bronze previously.
LAOIS HOSPICE MORNING

STRADBALLY JUVENILE ANGLING CLUB
A meeting of the Stradbally Juvenile Angling Club will be held in St Mary’s Hall on Monday, October 13 commencing at 8pm. All tickets for the draw to be returned by October 22.
The club are holding a fundraising draw on Saturday, October 25 in Dunnes. There is €1,000 in prize money with the first prize being €400. Tickets now on sale at €2 each. Your support would be greatly appreciated.
Knitting club for adults and children every week in the Stradbally Library. Adults on Tuesday night 6.30pm-8pm. Children Thursday afternoon from 3.45pm until 4.45pm. Free.

LAOIS SCOR NA NOG
A reminder to all that the Laois Scor na nOg competition takes place this year in Mountmellick Community Arts Centre on Friday, November 4. All the usual categories figure and set dancing, singing, instrumental music, ballad singing, drama, recitation and quiz.
LATE (JAMES) JIM RAMSBOTTOM
The death occurred on Saturday, September 27 of Jim Ramsbottom, Monamolin, Rathnure, Enniscorthy, Co Wexford and formerly of Timahoe. Sadly missed by his loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, brother, sister, extended family and friends. His remains were reposing at his nephew Philip’s residence (Monamolin) on Monday, until removal on Tuesday to St Anne’s Church, Rathnure, and following 12 noon funeral mass burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
Well done to three local competitors from the area who represented their county at The National Ploughing Championships at Ratheniska last week. Brendan Greene from Ratheniska, competed in the under 28 class, David Lalor, Esker Timahoe competed at under 21, and Siobhán Walsh, from Ratheniska was the Laois Macra competitor.
A Busy Week for Park Ratheniska Ladies
The last week has been packed full of action, and the Park Ratheniska Ladies Football Club were very much part of that action. For the three days of the NPA championships they managed the Portwest welly throwing competition.There were no Welly throwing winners in Laois. On Sunday the U14s went to The All Ireland final at Croke Park. The club would like to thank those who volunteered at the welly throwing, those who threw wellies and Portwest for sponsoring the competition. Proceeds to Park Ratheniska Ladies Football, Laois Riding for the Disabled & Cystinosis Foundation Ireland.
STRADBALLY YOUTH CENTRE
Please note that Stradbally Youth Centre has new opening times. They will now be open on Friday evenings only 6pm until 9pm and entry is €3. As they are now beginning their fifth term €10 membership is now due. This covers the cost of insurance only for each member while in the premises and for two excursions during the year. Leaders have now planned a calendar of events and fundraisers for members to organise and take part in. An exciting year is planned for all members. New members (6th class pupils) can attend from Friday, October 10.
A table quiz will be held in St Patrick’s Hall, Stradbally on Saturday, October 18 commencing at 8.30pm. Adults €10, students €5. Single contestants welcome. A fun night with supper and raffle. Not to be missed, all welcome.
The annual flu vaccine will be available in Stradbally Medical Practice, Court Square on Friday, October 10 between 9am and 12 noon.
Pneumonia vaccine also available. No appointment needed. Please bring along your medical card if applicable. Risk groups include all those over 65, chronic illness, pregnant women, etc.
