New Years Day

With New years day just around the corner Ballacolla Village will again be the place to be for the annual walk, pony and trap, high nelly and vintage road run where proceeds will go to the senior citizens and national schools fund. An invitation is extended to all walkers, pony owners, vintage owners and clubs, and Hi nelly clubs to take part. Participants will follow the usual route by Begadons Forge, Harveys Cross, and Lalors Ballygague whare the usual Christmas cheer will be served. Entertainment and refreshments will also be had at the finish in St Patrick’s Hall in Ballacolla Village. Start time 2pm sharp. Registration at 1.15pm.

Community Alert

The Woodenbridge Community Alert held their Annual General Meeting on Thursday, December 11 at Newtown Mill.The large attendance included Garda Sergeant Brian Farrell, Garda Declan Quinlan and representives from Help Link South (alarm providers). Chairman Michael G Phelan welcomed all and and said the success this far of the text messaging system was down to the continued vigilance of all the members. Sgt Farrell and Garda Quinlan also addressed the meeting. Various types of monitored alarms were also on display. Refreshments with seasons trimmings followed. The following officers were elected Chairman Michael G Phelan, Vice Chairman Kevin Galvin, Secretary Ann Marie Cannon, Assistant Secretary Michael Moore, Joint Treasures Liam Geoghegan and Michael Broderick.

South Laois Tourism

South Laois Tourism will hold a general meeting on Thursday, December 18 at 8pm in the Community Center Cullahill. All welcome.

ICA and ABCC Club

Clough ICA and ABCC Club Held their Christmas Party on Wednesday Last in Castle Arms Hotel Durrow Members enjoyed a lovely Meal with Music and Dancing for the afternoon and many of the member singing The member are now finished for January and will resume in February Everyone was wished a happy and safe Christmas.

Ballacolla Lotto

Jackpot of €5400 not won on Monday December 8th Numbers drawn were 3 4 13 26 Winners of €25 were Michael Dowling Glanbia Catherine Kirwin, Rathdowney, Gerry Henry, Ballacolla, Seamus and Gerry, Ballacolla , Sean Byrne, Oldglass. Jackpot for December 15TH will be €5,600. Tickets can be got from Committie Members or in Glanbia or Hawthorn.

Hawthorn Community Centre

The Annual General Meeting of Hawthorn Community Centre was held on Monday 8th December. Members discussed the running of the hall over the past year. All Officers were re elected: Chairman Declan Byrne, Vice Chairman Michael Broderick, Secretary Noreen Byrne, Treasurers Clifford Roe and Matty Doyle, Pro Michael Phelan. Improvements to the hall were discussed and a further meeting will be held in January. That concluded the Meeting.
