Portlaoise Parish have 75 tickets for people to attend the closing ceremony of the 50th International Eucharist Congress, later this year.
The diocese has received 1,400 tickets for the closing liturgy of the congress, which will take place on June 17, and of that 75 have been allocated to Portlaoise.
Most people will be familiar with stories from their grandparents about the last Eucharistic Congress which took place in Ireland in 1932.
The Congress normally takes place every four years. The daily celebration of the Eucharist is at the very heart of the Congress but the wider programme includes other liturgical events, cultural events, catechesis and testimonies, and workshops during the week. The most recent Congress was held in Quebec in 2008.
Anyone interested in taking a ticket should contact the Parish office immediately for an application form. The names and details of those attending have to be with the Diocesan Office in Carlow by March 15, together with €10 per ticket.
If there are more than 75 applicatiosn, a ballot will take place to allocate the tickets. It is also possible that not every parish will take up their full allocation of tickets and more may become available after the closing date for applications.
