Priests from Graiguecullen and neighbouring parishes and around the diocese will be fasting for the next 24 hours as repentance for hurt caused by the church.

Parish Priest, Fr John Dunphy has extended the invitation to all priests in the diocese and also to parishioners who wish to join in.

“There is a lot of people out there who can’t take their place at the table because of the hurt they are experiencing. So we’re doing it for them,” Fr Dunphy explains.

“As a Church we are all responsible for what has happened and we have all felt the hurt and pain.”

A prayer vigil will take place from 4pm to 6pm on Thursday evening, and Fr Dunphy hopes that the vigil will offer a prayerful lead into the Diocesan Eucharistic Congress which will be held in Carlow College, this weekend.

“We are praying for healing , that one day these people can be reconciled. We acknowledge the failures, and we hope for repentance and sorrow. We hope that the hurt can be healed someday.”

The priests will being their fast at 6pm this evening (Wednesday) and finish with the stations of the cross at 6pm on Thursday evening.
