Portlaoise summer bridge will start on Thursday May 17. Sessions will be held in the Sue Ryder Centre, Kilminchy, each Thursday commencing at 7.30pm. All are welcome, come along and enjoy.

Portlaoise Comhaltas will be holding a summer camp for secondary school students in Heritage House in Abbeyleix this summer. The aim of the course is to broaden the capacity of the musicians who are attending secondary school through exposure to different styles, music and content, covering the commercial and production side of the business as well as performance. The Campaign Against the Austerity Treaty (CAAT) are holding a public meeting in The Parish Centre, Portlaoise. At 8pm on Tuesday 22 May. Dr Kieran Allen a regular participant on Tonight with Vincent Browne, will present the case for voting no.

Heartlands Rally 2012 have chosen the Irish Kidney Association as their charity this year by holding a sponsored beard, shave and wax in O’ Loughlin’s Hotel on Saturday, May 19 at 8pm at their official launch. GAA president, Liam O’Neill, will give a talk on ‘The GAA and its relevance in Irish society today’ at the Heritage Hotel, Portlaoise, on Thursday, May 17, at 8.30pm. The talk is part of Laois Heritage Society’s spring series. The new GAA president has strong connections with Laois Heritage Society. His father, also Liam, was a founding member and a former vice-chairman. Liam will speak on the important role the GAA plays in Irish life and he will outline his main objectives during his three year term at the helm of the biggest sporting organisation in Ireland. All are welcome and admission is free.
