From Tuesday October 9 the Abbeyleix Library Knitting Club kicks off. It will take place between 11am and 1pm each Tuesday. If interested give your name at the desk or contact Aideen and Gillian on 057-8730020.

Reading session

On Friday November 9 Niamh Sharkey author will conduct a reading session for 6-8 year olds at 3.30pm in Abbeyleix library. Booking is essential. Call Walter or Dorothy on 057-8730020.

Adult book club

Abbeyleix Library will be starting an adult book club very soon. It will be between 6pm and 7pm one Thursday every month. If interested people can inform any library staff members or tel 057-8730020. Details of the start date will be announced later.


Social dance classes will resume in St Kieran’s Hall, Johnstown on Wednesday October 3 at 8 o clock. If you would like to dance the old-time waltz, quick step, fox trot, jive etc come along on Wednesday night. You dont need a partner, just come along and bring your friends. Abbeyleix homebrewers will host a Beerfest on Saturday October 13. entries are invited on Saturday morning up to 12noon at Morrissey’s for a homebrew beer competition. Talks and demonstrations on the craft of brewing good beer will be held in Morriseys during the afternoon. Several craft breweries will be promoting heir beers in the pubs around the town. The local fire Services are doing a pump push for tidy towns on sunday October 7. sponsorship cards are now in all local shops and your support would help the tidy towns committee funding for next year. Abbeyleix tidy towns were very successful in 2012 competition they received a silver medal.


The groups next meeting is on Thursday September 27 at 2pm in the Respond centre at gort na noir. Lots of events and trips planned for the Autumn and winter. New members welcome.
