POSITIVE MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAMME
A four week programme promoting positive mental health will take place on Tuesday mornings October 2, 9, 16 and 23 from 11am to 1pm each morning in MDA. POLITICS FOR STUDENTS
The Owenass Active Living Group in association with the Mountmellick Community Arts Centre will host two Introduction to Politics afternoons in the Community Arts Centre, Mountmellick on Friday 5 and Friday 12 October. These are free events, targeted at secondary school students. Speakers include Friday 5: Dep Charles Flanagan FG, Sen Kathryn Reilly SF, Christopher Fettes Green. Friday 12 : Fianna Fail - TBC, Sen John Whelan Lab.

Story time and colouring for ages 4 to 7 is on Thursday October 4 from 4pm to 5pm.All are welcome.
Our knitting circle meets each Tuesday from 10.30am to noon. Drop in for cuppa and a chat. All donations of wool would be greatly appreciated.
Mountmellick Photographic Society launched their exhibition of photographs entitled ‘Captured through the lens” on Saturday September 29 at noon. The exhibition will run until the end of October. Members of the photography society will stage a free digital photography workshop in the library on Saturday October 13. Contact the library at 8644572 to book a place.
To celebrate children’s book festival the library will run a competition whereby children can describe their favourite literary character. Pick up an entry form and return it to us before November 1.

Mountmellick Photographic Society is proud to launch their calendar at their 23rd annual exhibition in Mountmellick Community School on Friday night October 5. The calendar features images from Mountmellick and the greater Laois area and each individual month is sponsored by local businesses. A copy of the calendar can be purchased at the exhibition and will also be available through a number of selected outlets in Mountmellick. Past calendars have been sent to the Laois diaspora throughout the world.
The exhibition will be opened by the legendary Blues singer Mary Coughlan at 8pm and will feature more than 100 images displayed by members of the club. Photographs on display will include landscape, seascape, portraiture, nature, wildlife and abstract images.
The exhibition will also be open to the public on Sunday October 7 from 2pm until 5pm.

MPS is a long established club with a strong membership of many seasoned photographers and also includes a number of IPF (Irish Photographic Federation) Distinction holders.
Classes for traditional music have returned at Conor Davis Park. Beginners are at 6.30pm, intermediate at 7.15pm and advanced at 8.15pm. Classes are open to adults and children, come and discuss with the teachers which class is suitable for you. The cost is €4 per person to a maximum of €10 per family. The AGM has had to be postponed again due to unforeseen circumstances. The date will be reset and a notice sent out.
PARENT & TODDLER
A parent and toddler group meets every Tuesday and Thursday in the Methodist church hall from 10am to noon. Children up to and including 4 years of age with their parent or guardian are most welcome. Follow us on Facebook at Mountmellick Parent & Toddler.
Classes begin on Wednesday October 9 and Saturday October 12. Class schedules for all who have already completed and returned registration forms will be forwarded next week. Interest is high so places may be limited. Places will be assigned based on the date the completed registration form is returned. All are welcome. ACTIVE RETIREMENT ASSOCIATION
The fortnightly club meetings in October will be held on Wednesday 3, 17 and 31 at 10.30am in MDA. New members are always welcome to attend.
Boccia continues in the Macra Hall at 7.30pm every Monday. Aqua aerobics continues in Portlaoise Leisure Centre every Tuesday at noon with the free bus leaving the MDA at 11.15am. Dancing is on Wednesdays from 3pm to 4.30pm in Wolfe Tone Court beginning on October 3. Art classes will resume on Thursday October 4 from 2pm to 4pm in Wolfe Tone Court.
The weekly music and song in St Vincent’s Hospital continues on Thursdays from 2pm to 4pm.
The outing to the Over 50s show in the RDS is on Friday October 12 with the bus leaving MDA at 9.30am. Please notify a committee member if you want a ticket to the show and/or a place on the bus.
LAOIS MARTIAL ART
Classes for all ages from 4yrs old upwards held in Mountmellick and Portlaoise on Monday, Tuesday and Friday. There is a full matted professional gym including punch bags and boxing ring. Classes are taught by a 4th degree Irish national coach and National Champion. For details contact 087 2768843.
