SOLEMN NOVENA

SOLEMN NOVENA

This is our eighth year to run our Solemn Novena and it begins on Monday, April 8 and will continue for nine consecutive nights. The parish invites people during Lent to place petitions in the petition boxes in St Clare’s. During our Solemn Novena, through the prayers of our Faith Community and the intercession of Our Lady we will ask Our Lord to relieve whatever burdens we carry

VARIETY NIGHT PLUS SUPPER

Following the great success of the supper dance last year we are holding it again this year on Friday, April 12 in St Fiacc’s Hall. Supper will be followed by a cabaret and dance with an array of local artists taking part. This year the variety night will be in aid of Graiguecullen/Killeshin Lourdes Invalid Fund who takes over 40 people each year to Lourdes. We are seeking volunteers to host a table of ten. ST PATRICK’S DAY PARADE

Graiguecullen St Patrick’s Day Parade last few parades were very successful and we look forward to this year’s parade. Last year’s committee would like to invite, all groups, clubs and organisations, who would like to take part in this year’s parade, to a meeting on this Tuesday, February 5, at 8 pm in the Parish Centre.

THE GATHERING 2013

St Fiacc’s School Reunion will this year marks the 21 year anniversary of the official opening of the school. To mark the occasion there is a very special weekend of reminiscences and memories planned for the June Bank Holiday weekend. Contact Jane Moore or Mary Fleming 9132444 for further details.

FIRST PENANCE

First Penance meetings for parents of children who are celebrating the Sacrament of First Penance next month will be held this Thursday, February 21 in the Parish Centre; 7pm for the parents of Children of Killeshin National School and 8pm for the parents of children of St Fiacc’s National School.

BABY AND TODDLER GROUP

Graiguecullen Baby and Toddler group takes place in St Fiacc’s hall each Friday morning from 10am to 12pm. Come along for a cuppa and a chat while the kids play with a great range of toys. Cost is €3 per adult and all are welcome. For any further information please call Jen on 087 2748784.

IT’S K FACTOR TIME AGAIN

K Factor Talent Competition, qualifying rounds will be held on Saturday 23 February and Saturday 02 March in Killeshin Hall at 8pm with the doors open at 7.30pm. Check it out on Facebook at killeshingaa.com. Admission; adults €10, child and students €5.

SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM

The Parish is offering a Baptism Preparation Evening to all parents seeking Baptism for their child. This meeting will take place once a month in our Parish Centre from 7pm to 8.30pm on Monday, February 25 and Monday, March 25. While this evening is optional, we strongly encourage parents to avail of the meeting as we are anxious to assist them in any way we can at this special time.

KILLESHIN FC LOTTO

There was no winner of the recent lotto jackpot. The numbers drawn were 03, 06, 24 and 28. The four lucky dip winners were A O’Sullivan, Mark O’Regan, Tony Walsh and Sueann Doyle and each received €25. The seller’s prize of €25 was won by Darragh McDonald. The jackpot now stands at €8,100 and tickets cost €2 and can be purchased from any club member or in the local shop and public houses.

PARISH SWIMMING POOL

Children’s Swimming Lessons resuming on Saturday mornings. Spaces Available from 9 to 10am and from 10am to 11am also Tuesday evenings from 6 to 7pm. Contact Swimming Pool at 9140330. Get Fit for the New Year our Water Aerobics are resuming on Monday and Thursday nights from 9 to 10pm. First Aid course, OFA Fetac Level 5 refresher on March 3. Swimming Instructor, if you like to become a swimming instructor the course starts 4pm on Friday, March 8 and the minimum age 16 is years.

ST FIACC’S HOUSE

The Big Trad Train, comprising 20 musicians, four vocalists, singing soul, jazz, blues brothers, funk and much more are in concert in the Talbot Hotel on Wednesday, April 3 at 8pm. A tea party with ‘Pervish’ takes place in St Fiacc’s House on Thursday, April 4 from 5pm to 7pm. ‘Pervish’ have played at Electric Picnic 2012, and their show with music song and dance have played to sell out gigs nationwide. CHOIR MEMBERS WANTED

Killeshin Choir are seeking new members of all ages so anyone interested please speak to any choir member after 10.15 Mass.

BOCCIA PROGRAMME

Boccia is a competitive sport similar to bowls. It is an inclusive sport that may be enjoyed by people of all abilities. It’s on Thursdays in St Fiacc’s Hall from 5 to 6pm for 10 to 18 year olds. The Parish Pilgrimage to Lourdes takes place next year from 01 to 06 July, staying in the Hotel Paradis and costs €749 per person. Anyone interest contact Tully’s Travel.

OISÍN HOUSE

Coming events in Oisín House, Killeshin: First in a series of talks with Maureen Ryan, ‘Bullying-Understanding and Preventing’. The topic of Bullying takes place on Thursday 21 February at 7.30pm. EVERGREEN’S HOLIDAY 2013

The annual holiday commences on Monday 10 June for four nights, five days. The Hotel has been changed to the Four Star Ballymascanlon House Hotel, Dundalk; cost will be €300 per person sharing. Single rooms will be extra and there are a limited number available. Day trips include visits to Armagh, Belfast (Titanic Exhibition), Stormont Castle, Giants Causeway and The Down Coast. Anyone travelling should give their names and deposit to the Swimming Pool before Mon. 04 March as the Hotel will only hold rooms until then as there is a limited availability.

CHILDREN’S LITURGY

Children’s Liturgy of the Word takes place on each Sunday at the 11.30am Mass in St Clare’s. We invite all children between four years and first class to join us for our Sunday school. Our aim is to introduce the children to the Mass by taking part in activities appropriate to their age. These activities will take place in the parish centre and will be supervised by adults and students from our second level schools.

SUPPORT CHILDREN WITH AUTISM

Saplings School for Children with Autism are delighted to announce that they have produced their ‘Carlow of Old’ calendar again this year. The calendar was very well received last year and this year they have included a new set of old pictures from different areas around Carlow from the 50’s and 60’s. It is ideal gift for family and friends especially for anyone abroad at a cost of €5.

Anyone who would like to reflect on the Sunday readings is invited to a half hour meeting each Wednesday at 7.30pm in the Parish Centre. A special invitation to all who will be reading the Word of God at Mass on Sunday. This is an opportunity for people to enhance their participation in their celebration of Mass each Sunday.

KILLABBAN CHURCH AND GRAVEYARD

A talk on Killabban Church and Graveyard, an important early Christian site and medieval settlement, will be given on Wednesday, February 27 at 8pm in Killeen Community Centre, Maganey. The talk will be given by Caimín O’Brien, Archaeologist with the National Monuments Service. All are welcome and light refreshments will be provided. The evening will also host the formal launch of the Survey of Graveyards in Laois, published by the Heritage Office of Laois County Council and funded by the Heritage Council.
