A free five week course on mental health and suicide prevention is starting in Portarlington next week.
‘Gatekeepers: Community Mental Health Promotion Programme’ aims to inform the public about mental health, its role in suicide prevention, and the support services that are available.
Every week guest speakers will cover a different weekly topic, such as understanding mental health, coping with stress, addiction and bereavement, good nutrition, suicide awareness and prevention. The course is open for anyone to attend, no prior registration necessary. It will take place in the community centre, starting on Thursday May 9 at 7.30pm.
An optional three hour training session on suicide alertness will be offered on week six. Organisations involved in the course include Grow in Ireland, Mental Health Ireland, Living Links, Foroige and the Health Service Executive.
