FIELD DAY

Ballypickas Field Day will take place on Sunday July 21, from 2pm in the GAA grounds with events for all the family. Due to the success of the Laois Minor Hurlers who will now compete in the Leinster Final on July 7, we have had to re-schedule our Field Day. We will hold a number for events for free - kids races, kids hurling games, skills competition. We will also hold a number of fun fundraising events, including: face painting, tatoos, meggers, bowls, ring toss, ‘turf-stacking’ competition, refreshments, and much more! On Field Day we will GUNGE someone - the person with the most nominations will be gunged. Free admission. All welcome.

CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to Councillor Mary Sweeney on being only the 2nd woman elected Cathaoirleach of Laois County Council. Its a fantastic achievement for Mary who has worked tirelessly on local issues for many years as a member of the Council. It is a huge honour for Mary and for the village of Ballyroan. Top of her agenda is pushing forward the building of our new primary school. We wish her well in her endeavours as Cathaoirleach.

GIG

Gig in support of People Over Wind called ‘Rock Against The Machine’ will be held in Portlaoise next weekend. Don’t miss a great night of entertainment from five of our brilliant local bands! A gig has been organised for July 19, 9pm at O’Loughlin’s Hotel, Portlaoise. The line-up at the gig is David Bowe, Terry Byrne, Wally, James O’Connor and The Perfect Skins. Entry is €10 on the door. POW (People Over Wind) are a community group raising awareness of the potential impacts of the planned large scale wind farm development across Laois and neighboring counties. All support would be appreciated.
