The Irish Steam Preservation Society’s narrow gauge railway will have full steam up and running on Sunday, July 14 from 1pm - 4pm. The society will play a part on the day to help to entertain children from Chernobyl and their host families from all parts of Laois. The society is happy to play its part in making sure that the children’s visit will be a truly memborable one.
All visitors will have an opportunity to travel with and enjoy the signes of signs and sound of the 1949 steam locomotive. It was built for Bord na Mona do draw turf to Portarlington Power Station. More recently it starred on RTE television. The railway is also home to two veteran diesal locomotives.

AFC AWARDS NIGHT
The club will hold its awards night on Saturday, July 13 in the Napper Tandy’s. Players of the season, young players of the season and top goal scorers will be honoured for the 2012/13 season just gone by. There’s a live band on the night and hot food served. A draw for two premium level tickets to one of Ireland crucial upcoming World Cup games in the Aviva Stadium will also be made on the night and everyone welcome along.

The organisers of the 49th National Steam Rally being held in Stradbally, County Laois on Sunday 4 and Monday 5 August 2013 are looking forward to another great event. Admission price €10. Children (under 12) free. 10am to 6pm each day.

ST VINCENT DE PAUL
The Stradbally St Vincent de Paul would like to thank everyone who came to their official opening last Saturday. It was a great day, food and the weather couldn’t have been better. Thanks also to everyone who helped in any way and to all who bought items from the shop.

Sympathy is extended the family of Mrs Delia Dunne (nee Cushen), Grange Lower, who passed away recently. Mrs Dunne, beloved wife of the late Paddy, is sadly missed by her loving family, son William, daughters Margaret, Mary, Ann and Judith, daughter-in-law Pauline, sons-in-law Pat, John and Alfie, sisters-in-law, relatives, neighbours and a large circle of friends.
Her remains were removed to the Sacred Heart Church, Stradbally and internment took place the following day in Oakvale Cemetery.
