Interested In Becoming A Volunteer in the Abbeyleix Youth Cafe? Youth Work Ireland Laois are looking for volunteer leaders to work in the Abbeyleix Youth Café. This is an exciting opportunity to work as a volunteer in partnership with young people, volunteers and other stakeholders, to empower and enable young people in matters that shape their lives, communities and society at large. Volunteer leader training and ongoing support will be provided. September meeting was held on Tuesday September 3. Pat O’ Halloran President presided. Meeting was opened with prayer and My Land. Votes of sympathy were passed with Casey family on the death of Pat Reddington, Gertie Thornton on the death of her sister in law Bernie Purcell, Yvonne Porter on the death of her daughter in laws brother and Clooney family on the death of Mary Clooney. Federation meeting in Cullohill on September 17 members will attend. Abbeyleix guild will host group meeting in Gort na Noir community hall on October 16. Four members will take part in Pitch and Putt competition. Congratulations was extended to Kathleen and Danny Cass on the occasion of their 50 wedding anniversary. Super was served by Gertie Thornton. Next meeting takes place October 1 at 8pm. Competition 1 Alice Reilly, 2 Violet Rathwell and 3 Sadie Chester. Raffle 1 Bride Reilly, 2 Madeline Cahill.
Heritage House is hosting Eamonn Kelly of the National Museum of Ireland on October 3 when he is giving a talk about the Cashel Bog body, discovered near Ballyroan. At about 4000 years old, this is the oldest bog body discovered anywhere in the world. Admission to the talk is €5 and tickets are now available in Heritage House, Abbeyleix.

Abbeyleix Social Services committee would like to thank everyone who gave donations at the church gate collection in Abbeyleix and Ballyroan on Saturday August 24 and Sunday August 25. A total of €920 was raised. Your support and generosity is much appreciated.
Heritage House and the Abbeyleix Bog Project are hosting the 3rd Applefest. The festival will be held on Sunday September 29 from 2pm to 5pm. All are welcome to come along and bring some apples to be pressed.
The Abbeyleix Active retired group held a successful coffee morning last Thursday, September 19 in aid of Laois Hospice. The funds raised will be presented at later date. The group meets every Thursday from 2-4pm in Gort na Noir.

Condolences to the family of the late Ann Marie Carter (née Kelly) Boleybeg, Spink, Abbeyleix,/Cloneygowan who died on September 19. Deeply regretted by her loving husband Micheal, son Damien, daughter Michelle, brothers Paddy and Jerry, sisters Margaret and Kathleen, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends.
Reposed at her residence with removal to St. Lazarians Church, Knock for funeral Mass followed by burial in adjoining cemetery.
