Durrow/Abbeyleix Macra hosts a table quiz on Friday, February 7 in Dec’s Bar Durrow from 9pm, Table of four €20, raffle on the night with lots of prizes to be won. All support is welcome.
The inaugural in house cinema night showcasing new Irish short film was recently held in Abbeyleix FEC. As part of their work experience module the level 6 Art students transformed classrooms into a cinema for one night only with the venue being dramatically transformed from an education centre to a pop up cinema. Abbeyleix GAA Senior B Championship dinner dance on Saturday, February 1 in the Abbeyleix Manor Hotel at 8pm sharp. Tickets €35 from Denise Bonham, Richard Kennedy. Black tie for players & management, optional otherwise.
January meeting held on Tuesday, January 7. Pat O Halloran President presided. Meeting opened with prayer and my land. Alice Reilly, Sec, read minutes of Decemer meeting, Catherine Smith tres., gave a detailed report on finances. Members to attend table quiz in Spink. The 100 years celebrations will kicked off January 25 to February 15 with an art and craft display in Abbeyleix library. All are welcome to view. The celebration dinner dance will take place in Abbeyleix Golf club on February 28 at 7.30, music by Har Ramsbottom. Two members will go to An Grianan in June. 7 members are attending knitting club on Wednesday mornings from 10.30 – 12.30 in the library. A lovely supper was served by hostess Violet Rathwell. Credit Union Quiz
Abbeyleix Credit Union School Quiz on Monday, February 3 in the Manor Hotel. All primary schools have entry forms and quiz rules . Waiting on the final few entries to be returned. Team enrollment at 6.30pm, quiz starts at 7pm. It promises to be a great night with loads of spot prizes and fun.
Tennis Club AGM
Our AGM takes place in the Manor Hotel, February 13 at 8pm. Please come and help im the development of our club. All are welcome.
Juvenile Chess Club has moved to Saturday mornings since January 18. We are starting a new adult chess club and looking for people to sign up, to take place every Thursday, 6pm - 7pm. Storytelling 3-6 year olds every Saturday at 11.30am. Our knitting club takes place each Wednesday between 10.30am and 12.30pm. Next meeting of our Adult Book Club is on Thursday February 13, between 6pm 7pm. The book title to be discussed is ‘The Great Gatsby’ by F Scott Fitzgerald. George Thullier will exhibit in the gallery until January 31. It includes landscapes, pub scenes, street names and portraits. Janet O’Grady, Happy Mondays Group will exhibit from Tuesday February 4 until Saturday March 1.
SCOIL MHUIRE ENROLMENT
Scoil Mhuire, Abbeyleix enrolment week from February 10-14. Parents who wish to enrol children in Junior Infants can visit the Junior Infants classroom from 2–2.30pm on Friday 14. Enrolment Forms and school handbooks are available from the school and various local pre-schools. Completed forms must be returned to the school by February 18 to secure a place for your child. Please inform the Principal of any possible special needs requirements.
Laois GUIDE DOGS
The group held their church gate collection recently, January 12/13 when €319 was raised. Big thank you to all who supported this very worthy cause.
The AIB League is in progress over three weeks, draw for partners next week.

Both Clubs passed a vote of sympathy to the Horan Family on the death of Jean, a minutes silence was observed as a mark of respect.
