Late Myra Lalor
Condolences to the family of the late Myra Lalor (née Murphy) of Main St, Abbeyleix who passed away on Friday, February 28. Loving wife of Paddy, former TD. Minister, and MEP she is also deeply regretted son Joe, daughters Frances (Fleming), Helen (O`Dea, Gleeson) and Veronica (Daly), daughter-in-law Marisie,sons-in-law Leo, Paul and Philip, brother Fr. Alphie Murphy(Carbury), sisters Vera Dunne, Portlaoise and Shiela Sinnott, Ardattin, extended family, relatives and friends. Reposed at her residence. Removal to the Church Of The Most Holy Rosary, Abbeyleix for Requiem Mass with burial immediately afterwards in the adjoining Cemetery.
March meeting was held on Tuesday 4, President Pat O Halloran presided. The meeting opened with a prayeer and my land. Votes of sympathy were passed with White family on the recent death of Reggie and also the Lalor family on the death of Myra, a past member. Alice Reilly secretary, thanked all who gave crafts for display in library in February. Our centenuary dance was a huge success. Great credit to al who workded so hard and also to all who supported us it was a night to remember. Arrangments are being put in place for a Patrick’s day celebration. Catherine Smith gave a report on financial. Federation dinner on April 11 in Gandon Inn, members will attend. ICA nationa general meeting in Mullingar Park Hotel on May 24. supper was served by Mary Coffey. Next meeting April 1 at 8pm. Abbeyleix Bridge Club
On Tuesday February 4 the Bank of Ireland League Cup and the Rosemary Higgins Trophy were presented. The winner of the Rosemary Higgins Trophy was Mark Kirwan and the trophy was presented to him by Kevin Higgins. Runner-up Ann Cummins, Gross Catherine Brennan, 3rd Barbara O’Donnell. The League was played over the past three weeks this years very popular winner is Frances Stanley, 2nd Maura Burke, 3rd Paddy Purcell, 4th Shem Mulhall, 5th Nuala Molumby 6th Ann Doherty, 7th Kathleen Lee, 8th Catherine Brennan, 9th Emma McEvoy10th Catherine Campion.
Start the annual festivities early with the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Spink. Following the success of past St Patrick’s Day Parades in Spink, Spink Brownie Guides have again come together with other local organisations to arrange this year’s Parade on Monday March 17 with the theme “Times Past”. The parade will travel from outside St. Lazarian’s Church, Knock along the road to Knock Hall, commencing 10.15am (after Morning Mass). Afterwards everyone is invited to refreshments including ‘A Taste of Times Past’ and entertainment in Knock Hall. Again this year, a display of arts, crafts and produce from local businesses will be held in the Hall in conjunction with the parade. Anyone interested in participating can contact Mary at 057 8731838. Everyone is welcome to come along and join us for the caint, ceoil agus cupán tae.
In Abbeyleix the parade starts at the Heritage House at 12.30pm, and finishes at the Abbeyleix Manor Hotel. To enter a float or stall, contact Caroline Cleland.
