ICA Choir will visit Abbeyleix Hospital on May 13 at 1.30pm and St Vincent’s Hospital Mountmellick on May 14.

AWARE

The Aware Support Group for people experiencing depression, anxiety, stress and other mood related conditions meets every Tuesday at 7.30pm in St Peter and Pauls Parish Centre, Portlaoise. This service is free of charge, no referral is required and you do not need to book.  If you require further information contact 016617211 or www.aware.ie or the locall Helpline 1890303302.  

Hibernian Bridge Club

Our bridge season concluded with Mr Tom Reilly’s president’s prize played for over two weeks and the presentation of prize took place at the President’s Dinner in The Manor Hotel on Saturday April 5. Tom’s very generous and beautiful prize was very keenly contested and the popular winners of the President’s Prize 2014 were Paddy Purcell Sam Moore. 2nd Bride and Tom Reilly, gross Helen Casey Frank O’Donnell, 3rd Jack Murphy

St Lazarians Camogie 

Looking for somewhere to go Easter Sunday night. Join us in Abbeyleix Golf Club for our first official social night April 20, at 9pm. Music by Music Zoo DJ Be in with a chance to win a night away and dinner for two in the Greville Arms, Mullingar and lots more prizes on the night. Admission and entry into house draw €5. LAOIS OPEN DOOR THEATRE

The group will hold their AGM on Thursday May 1 at 8pm in the Abbeyleix Manor Hotel. If you have a talent for acting or backstage work, set construction and design make up or costumes, stage management, contact Kevin at 087 9614235.

Abbeyleix Library

Between April 2 and 25 Caroline Conway will exhibit in the library art gallery. Also between April 4 and 22 Orla McDonagh and Heywood Students will exhibit in the gallery also. From April 29 - May 30 Spink Ceolamhtas will hold an exhibition of photos, trophys etc as part of their hosting the Laois Fleadh Cheoil. Juvenile Chess Club meets every Saturday morning at 10am. Our Knitting Club takes place each Wednesday, 10.30 and 12.30pm. Next meeting of our Adult Book Club will be on Thursday April 20 at 6pm. The book is the Kite Runner by Khalid Hosseini. Leaving Cert German grinds cancelled due to lack of interest. On May 22 we celebrate the Bealtaine Festival in the Library with a show entitled ‘The Good Old Days’. All are welcome to a night of entertainment.
