Bees & Butterflies

The Abbeyleix Bog Project are organizing a workshop on Bumble bees and butterflies by the Biodiversity Data Centre on Wednesday, August 13 at 10am, at Heritage House Abbeyleix and Abbeyleix Bog. All are welcome and the event is free, contact emma.g.seale@gmail.com to book, please bring suitable outdoor clothing, footwear and your lunch.

Late Denis FITZPATRICK

Condolences to the family of the late Denis Fitzpatrick of Donaghmede, Dublin and formerly Abbeyleix who died on June 20 peacefully in the care of the Mater Hospital. Much loved by his wife Rosaleen and his sons and daughter Colin, Alison and Alan, also deeply regretted by sister Mary and brothers, extended family and friends. Requiem Mass at the Church of the Holy Trinity, Donaghmede followed by burial in Fingal Cemetery.

Late Gerry VAUGHAN

Condolences to the family of the late Aughnasheelin, Ballinamore, Leitrim / Abbeyleix, Laois who died on June 26, peacefully, after a short illness. Sadly missed by his brother Austin, sisters Eileen and Grainne, extended family, relatives and many friends. Reposed at St Patrick’s Hospital, Carrick-on-Shannon. Burial at the new cemetery, Ballyroan Road, Abbeyleix.

CYCLE CHALLENGE

Sunday August 31 all roads lead to Fisherstown Ballybrittas co.Laois for the running od the 100km cyle challenge other events on the day include a 50km cycle and a short cycle for families and individuals high nellies also welcome start and finish at Fishermans Inn where refreshments will be served to all afterwards further info phone 0872654001

Golf Club

The Abbeyleix Golf Club takes place from Friday, July 11 to Sunday, July 20. Special juvenile competition on Monday, July 21. Celebrate 40 years.

Abbeyleix Library

Juvenile chess club meets every Saturday morning at 10am. CoderDojo classes are postponed for the summer and will resume in October. Eadrom Art class for 6 to 12 year olds. Booking is essential for each class. Ring the library at 057-8730020. Our knitting club has been postponed until the end of summer when the club recommences we will announce it here.

ST VINCENT DE PAUL

The St Vincent de Paul are opening a shop on Main Street, Abbeyleix. We are accepting donations of clothing, footwear, homewares, books and toys in the shop from 10am to 8pm from Monday to Saturday. These items will then be sold in the store, any profits raised in the shop will be spent on the society’s activities assisting individuals and families in the local community.

Walking festival

Killamuck Bog Abbeyleix. This Failte ireland approved loop features old bog tracks and peaceful wooded lanes. Meet at the Manor Hotel in Abbeyleix on July 14 at 7.30pm. This walk takes two hours and is 10km.

Stunning panormaic views across several counties are promised, weather permitting, on Sunday, July 20 during a 10km walk starting in Spink. The walk which takes you along country lanes, forest tracks and open country starts at Knock Church, Spink at 11am. Grade A 2.5 hours.

De Vesci Estate

Open day at De Vesci Estate Abbeyleix is on Sunday, August 10. This is always a wonderful day out for the family to explore the hidden beauty of the grounds. Like the old boathouse (see pic). More details to follow nearer the date

Ballinakill poool

Grand opening of the heated outdoor pool in Ballinakill on Sunday, July 6 at with a family fun day which starts at 1pm All welcome.
