ATTANAGH

HISTORY

A train has arrived recently in Attanagh, unfortunately not into the station which sadly closed in 1962 but rather into the post office. A photo of a ballast train taken at Attanagh Station in 1952 has aroused much interest particularly as photographs of the station are few. This invaluable piece of railway heritage was discovered by Mr Ron Bramley, Abbeyleix and depicts stationary Steam Locomotive 252 with crew facing Ballyragget. The station house (present day residence of Martin and Bridog Kelly) can be seen in the background. Many thanks to Mr Bramley for sharing this treasured piece of history.
