The annual Ballyouskill sponsored horse ride will take place on Easter Sunday at 1.30pm. The starting point is at the Wheel Inn, Ballyouskill and will follow the usual route. This year’s event is in aid of the Heart and Lung Treatment Unit in the Mater Hospital. There will be plenty of refreshments on the day and a fancy dress party in the Wheel Inn that evening. Please come along.

There were six tables at last week’s (4 April) 25 Progressive Card Games in Ballyouskill Hall. The winners were Mary Farrell and Noreen Kelly (13 games); Mick Holland and Tom Fenelon (11 games); Seamus Brennan and Dickie Brennan (11 games).

Attanagh Residents 40th Anniversary

In conjunction with a celebratory function to be held in June it is hoped to have a small exhibition of photos. I am particularly looking for photos of those residents who have passed away but who should be remembered for their contribution to local life. Any photos borrowed will be copied and returned to the owner. I would be most obliged for any assitance.

Museum TALK

Walter Phelan, proprietor of the Irish Fly Fishing and Game Shooting Museum, was delighted on April 4, to welcome Mr Steve Christiansen former president of the American habitat organisation, Pheasants Forever to the Museum. Founded in 1982, this extensive movement has managed to acquire over 5 million acres of habitat which was subsequently saved and improved for wildlife. A packed room of enthusiasts listened attentively to the talk on conservation projects in Idaho set up for gaming birds like the pheasant. He described how these projects were set up, seen through and the commitment involved. He proved that they faced the similar problems as Irish habitat set ups of predators, the industrialisation of farming and an aging member profile. Mr Christensien was very positive in his outlook and encouraging to all interested in habitat conservation.
