Fourth class pupils at Ballyfin NS were recently selected for a full day planning workshop.
The president of the Irish Planning Institute, Mary Crowley, plus her team of planners for the day - Johanna Kelly and Gormla Ni Chuinnin, worked with the school’s boys and girls for the day.
Evelyn Duff, school architect was also present on the day.
The planners discussed planning and planning issues with the children and spent part of the day putting together a model 3D town.
Parents and guardians were invited to attend towards the end of the day. the children made presentations of their work to all present, explaining their models and how they were put together.
School principal Michael Moloney said that the day was very beneficial to the students. “When they are learning through making, it makes more sense. This is something that they will remember, and standing up to speak in front of the class was good for them as well. This was the first time we had such a visit, the children had done some bits and pieces on planning through their school curriculum”.
Mary Crowley then presented certificates from the Irish Planning Institute to all who took part in the day.
