Borris-in-Ossory and Rushall coursing club in conjunction with Thurles and District Coursing Club held a most successful Coursing meeting at the Green Roads, Ballymeelish on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday November 20, 21 and 22. The weather on both days was perfect, Coursing was of a very high order; the hares and field were in top condition thanks to the great work of the working members. Borris-In-Ossory ran the earlier rounds of their stakes on Tuesday and Thurles ran theirs on Wednesday. All semi-finals and Finals were completed on Thursday.
Top prize of the day the Laois Cup and All Age Stake went to Kieran McManus (Limerick) ‘Call Him Now’. McElligott’s Bar Syndicate (Ardfert, Co. Kerry) ‘Farewell Shay’ won the Rushall Stake & Derby Trial Stake. Marie Field’s (Patrickswell, Co. Limerick) ‘Kyle Trixie’ took the Green Roads Stake and Oaks Trial Stake. The Surplus Stake went to Pat Dunne’s (Kilcoke) ‘Second Luck’. At the conclusion of Coursing, Chairman Joe Hanrahan and Secretary Edmund Sheeran along with other committee members presented all Cups and prize money to the winners.
Borris-In-Ossory & Rushall Coursing Club wish to thank the Thurles and District Club for their help and co-operation, all workers throughout the last number of months who helped to make the meeting such a success.
Before the finals a minutes silence was observed for the late Aidan Kelly who had passed away since the last coursing meeting. Aidan had been a longstanding member of the club and served as Hononary Secretary for many years, other members and connections who had passed away during the year were also included. Finally the club wish all Coursing Supporters a Happy Christmas and successful coursing over the season.
All preparations are now just about complete to run a Variety Concert on Saturday, December 22 in Killasmeestia Community Centre. The concert will include Borris-In-Ossory Youth Clubs recent successful Comedy and Music Song and Dance acts. Other acts to perform will be An Gael Scoil tSli Dala Ballaghmore, Borris-In-Ossory ICA, Knockaroo Choir, Cowboys from the Wild West and many more numerous groups and solo artists. It promises to be a great night’s entertainment with admission just €5; all who buy tickets will be entered in a draw for a valuable cash prize very generously sponsored by Paul Hogan Electrical. So please come along and enjoy, Concert begins at 8pm.
A fundraising raffle will be run on the night with loads of prizes. Our thanks to all who have donated and sponsored our Club for the concert. SOCIAL IN KILLASMEESTIA
A Social will take place in Killasmeestia Community Centre on this Friday night December 21 with music by Dermot Lyons. Dancing will be from 9.30pm to 12.30am and supper will be served.

The usual Progressive 25 Drive will continue next Thursday night in the O’Brien Hall at 9pm.

Borris in Ossory Country Markets wish all their customers a Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year. The market will be closed until January 5.
The Parish Carol Service will take place in St Canice’s Church, Borris in Ossory on this Sunday, December 23 at 7pm. All are welcome to come along. The final rehearsal for those taking part will take place in the church on Wednesday, December 19 at 8pm.

Borris-in-Ossory Church of Ireland Parish holds its annual carol service at Saint Mark’s Church at 8 pm on Wednesday December 20.Everyone is welcome.
St Josephs NS Parents Association
St Joseph’s National School Parents Association has produced a 2013 Calendar to mark the occasion of moving from the old school to the new school. They cost €10 each and there is only a limited number available. Calendars will be on sale from any member of Parents Association or from local businesses in the village.
Tickets are currently on sale for St Joseph’s National School annual Christmas raffle. Prizes will include a Christmas Hamper (value €400), Load of timber, Fuel voucher, €100 cash and many more prizes. Tickets are only €1 each and are available locally. The draw will take place in the school PE Hall on Friday, December 21.
ST STEPHEN’S DAY WALK
This is the 20th anniversary of the St Stephen’s Day Walk in aid of Laois Hospice, there is a long walk (10 miles) and a short walk (3 miles approximately) in the Slieve Blooms. The walk will leave The Community Centre Clonaslee at 12 noon. Sponsopship cards are available from Sheila Bourke on 057 86 48084.
Killasmeestia ICA meeting took place on Thursday December 6. President Margaret Ryan welcomed the members and thanked them for making the raffle such a success, she went on to thank all who supported same. The President wished members a Happy Christmas and New Year.
