‘A Christmas Carousel’ on Thursday December 19 in the school 7pm. Adms €5 for adults, children free. The children have been practicing very hard under the guidance of Jared Madden, so please come along and give them your suppport.

Tickets on sale for the school’s annual Christmas raffle which takes place on Friday, December 20. Tickets €1. Prizes include €300 hamper, timber, meat & fuel vouchers etc.

Congratulations

Well done to Niamh Coss, Ciara Ward, Sinead Ryan and Katie Tyrrell all members of the Ladies Football Club, who were presented with their U14 Leinster Championship medals at a function in Portlaoise recently.

Variety concert

Plans are now well underway to run a Variety Concert on Saturday December 28 in Killesmeestia Hall. A number of local Clubs and Groups will also be performing music, song and dance. It promises to be a great night’s entertainment with admission just €5, so please come along and enjoy.

COURSING CLUB

Borris in Ossory and Rushall Coursing Club held a very successful two day coursing meeting recently at the Green Roads, Ballymeelish. The weather was perfect and the hares and field were in top condition, thanks to the working members. The Laois Cup & All Age Stake went to the Collins-Heeney Syndicate from Ennis and Dundalk with “Grayacre Star”. The All Age Bitch Stake & Jack Treacy Cup was won by “Ross Judy” owned and trained by local member Louis Duff, Ballyfin. The Stradbally Syndicate’s ‘We Have Bob; won the Rushall Stake & Derby Trial Stake. Mary Beckett from Freshford, won the Green Roads Stake and Oaks Trial Stake with “Star Proof”. The Local Stake went to Martin Cuddy, Ballybrophy with “Most Improved”. The Chairman Joe Hanrahan, Secretary Edmund Sheeran and other committee members presented all Cups and prize money. The club thanks all members who worked to help make the meeting a success.

SYMPATHY

Before the finals took place, a minutes silence was observed for the late Mick Rafter, Ballymeelish who passed away since the last Coursing meeting. The late Mick was a longstanding and most loyal member of the club, be it catching hares, selling tickets or working in the Coursing field, Mick was always there to play his part and took great pride in his membership of Borris in Ossory and Rushall Coursing Club. Sympathy was also extended to other members who suffered bereavements during the year. Finally the committee wishes all Coursing members and supporters a Happy Christmas and successful coursing over the remainder of the season.

SOCIAL in KILLASMEESTIA

Social in Killasmeestia Community Centre on this Friday night December 20 with music by Pat and Richie. Dancing will be from 9.30pm to 12.30am and supper will be served.

CHRISTMAS EVE MASSES

Mass to be celebrated on Christmas Eve in the Church of the Assumption, Killasmeestia at 6pm & in St Canice’s Church, Borris in Ossory at 8pm.

LATE MAURA NOLAN

Condolences to the family of the late Mrs Maura Nolan, (nee Ryan), Clononeen, Borris in Ossory. Reposed at her home. Removal to St. Canice’s Church, Borris-in-Ossory for Funeral Mass followed by burial immediately afterwards in the New Cemetery Borris in Ossory. The late Maura, who was predeceased by her husband Michael only a year and a half ago will be sadly missed by her sons Peter and Niall, daughters Mary and Carmel, daughter-in-law Teresa, sons-in-law Pat and Jim, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, neighbours and friends.

LATE DELIA PHELAN

The death took place on Friday December 6 at St. Vincent’s Private Hospital, Dublin of Mrs Delia Phelan (nee Fennelly), late of Glebe House, Donaghmore, and 25, Ailesbury Park, Ballsbridge, Dublin. Reposed at Glebe House, Donaghmore until removal to the Church of the Holy Trinity, Rathdowney, for Requiem Mass, followed immediately by burial in Belady Cemetery. The late Mrs Phelan was predeceased by her husband the late Pat Phelan and son the late Senator Kieran Phelan. Sadly missed by her sons and daughters Paschal, Brendan, Sean, Mina, Breda, Fintan, Sheila, Lorretta, Martin, Anne, Christena, Margaret Mary, Kevin, Laurence, Louise and Ursula, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, her 46 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and many friends.

KILLASMEESTIA ICA

Killasmeestia ICA meeting took place on Wednesday December 5, presided over by Margaret Ryan. A vote of sympathy was passed with the Bergin family Ballyquaid on the recent death of the late Paddy Bergin. Margaret Ryan reported on the recent Federation meeting which was held in Castletown. All members were reminded to support the ICA Christmas concert in Knockaroo Church on Sunday December 15. Raffle winners were 1st Margaret Ryan 2nd Betty Bergin, 3rd Shirley Stanley. The members then enjoyed a lovely supper. President Margaret Ryan wished all the members a very happy Christmas.

CAROL SERVICE

Christmas Carol Service in St. Canice’s Church, on Sunday December 22 at 7pm. Final rehearsals on December 19 at 7.30pm.
