CAROL SERVICE

The annual Christmas Carol Service took place in St. Canice’s Church, Borris in Ossory on Sunday December 22. The Carol Service featured members of the four choirs in the parish, members of the parish church orchestra and soloist Erin Dollard, all under the baton of musical director Patricia Scott. At the end of the Carol Service, Fr. Jackie Robinson gave a special Christmas blessing to all present and thanked everyone who took part and everyone who came along. He had special praise for musical director Patricia Scott who gave so much of her time, energy and commitment to ensure the success of the event and also thanked all who attended the rehearsals in the weeks leading up to the service .

CHRISTMAS CONCERT

Many thanks to all who supported the Christmas Concert featuring the Laois ICA Choir and soloist Erin Dollard which was held in Knockaroo Church on Sunday evening December 15. Thanks also to everyone who helped in any way to make the concert such an outstanding success. A sum of €1240 has been sent to Sr. Anne Healy, a nun from Co. Tipperary who works in the Philippines with the victims of the recent typhoon.

ICA

Borris in Ossory ICA Guild will hold its first meeting of 2014 in St Canice’s Hall on Wednesday night January 8 at 8pm. The competition is the nicest Christmas card you received!

COUNTRY MARKETS

Country Markets will resume on Saturday January 18. A big thank you to all our customers who supported us in 2013 and looking forward to meeting you all again in the New Year. On sale will be Home Baking, Jams, Fresh Eggs and vegetables, Flowers, Shrubs and Crafts.

Ossory Cycling Club.

OCC is a newly formed cycling club in Laois, we are now into our third year as a club. We carter for both Leisure and the more competitive Cyclist. Our aim is to promote cycling in Laois and surrounding areas. we currently have cyclist from both Tipperary and Kilkenny. We have come quite a long way since we started up.

There has being two Leisure cycle events and one cycling Ireland road held in Rathdowney and our club has also being taking part in an inter Club cycling Competition for the last two years. if you are interested in joining our club feel free to join us on Sunday Mornings from the Square Rathdowney starting at 10am sharp.

SYMPATHY

Sympathy is extended to Harry Whelan Clonagooden, Borris in Ossory, Dan Whelan, Green Roads and Billy Whelan, Ballybrophy on the sudden death of their brother in law, the late John Arrigan. Newpark, Portlaoise and late of Cappoquin. His death took place on December 8 and his Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday December 12, in SS Peter and Paul’s Church, Portlaoise, followed by interment in SS Peter and Paul’s Cemetery, Portlaoise.

He is deeply regretted by his wife Rita (nee Whelan, Clonagooden, Borris in Ossory), sons, daughters, grandchildren, extended family, relatives and friends.

THE LATE BRENDAN JOSEPH GLENNON

The death took place on Sunday December 22 of Mr. Brendan Joseph, Glennon, Gortnalee, Donaghmore, Portlaoise, Co. Laois and formerly of Lucan, Co. Dublin. His remains reposed at his residence until removal on Tuesday morning Dec 24 to St. Canice’s Church Borris in Ossory for Funeral Mass with burial immediately afterwards in Esker Cemetery Lucan, Co. Dublin. The late Mr. Glennon, who was predeceased by his first wife Olive and son John, is deeply regretted by his loving wife Hazel, sons Michael and Paul, daughters Mary and Emer, sister Nuala, daughters-in-law Olive and Aedin, son-in-law James, grandchildren, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends. May he Rest in Peace.
