ICA

The Annual General Meeting of Borris in Ossory ICA Guild took place in St Canice’s Hall on Wednesday April 2, presided over by Helen Kavanagh. Noreen Byrne, Federation Information Officer was present to oversee the election of officers. Congratulations were extended to Iris Allen and Helen Browne on the births of their new grandsons. Arrangements were made for members to attend the ICA Dinner Dance in the Gandon Inn on Friday April 11 and also the Federation AGM in Mountmellick on Wednesday April 23. The President Helen Kavanagh welcomed Noreen Byrne to the meeting and thanked all the members for all their help and co-operation during her four year term of office. Secretary Noreen Whelan, in her annual report, outlined all the activities of the guild during the last year and the treasurer Pat Kelly gave a detailed account of the guild’s finances.

Election of officers then took place and the following officers were elected for the coming year President – Helen Browne, Vice President - Helen Kavanagh, Hon Secretary – Stella Kealy, Hon Treasurer – Pat Kelly, Membership Secretary - Teresa Lalor, Competitions Secretary – Noreen Whelan, PRO - Helen Kavanagh, An Grianan Rep – Nuala Costello, Crafts Promoter – Florrie Foley, Produce Promoter – Iris Allen, Timire – Rosie Kealy, Arts Promoter – Pat Brophy.

The competition was won by Noreen Whelan, 2nd Lily Sheeran, 3rd Helen Kavanagh and the raffle winners were Sheila Phelan and Teresa Lalor. The overall competition winner for 2013 was Lily Sheeran and she was presented with the perpetual silver salver. The next guild meeting will take place on Wednesday May 7.

BORRIS IN OSSORY TIDY TOWNS

Clean Up Laois Week 2014 commenced on Monday April 7 and will end on Friday April 11. The Tidy Towns Committee seek volunteers to pick litter in their areas. Contact 087 2686070 and arrangements will be made to collect the bags for disposal. Under no circumstances will household litter be collected

Now that Spring is here and the ground is starting to warm up, this is the time to get the best advice and help for your garden. The best place for advice is St. Canice’s Hall on Thursday 10th April at 8.00pm with the local Gardening Group.

FIRST COMMUNION TALK

Fr Robinson will give a talk to the Parents/Guardians of children for First Communion after Mass at 8 p.m.in Borris-in-Ossory Church on Tuesday, April 8.

Starting on Monday April 7 at 7.30pm, work around the village of Killasmeestia will begin again for the Summer - participation appreciated.

DAFFODIL DAY

Daffodil Day in Borris in Ossory was very successful this year with an amount in excess of €3000 being collected for the Irish Cancer Society. Thanks to all who donated and to the volunteers and shops/businesses who facilitated the collection.
