Budding young scientists

Heywood Community School had two entrants in the Young Scientist competition recently.

Two first year students Ruth Bergin and Caoimhe O’Keeffe did a study of Irish wetlands and of the carnivorous plants that thrive there and of the role of Sphagnum Moss in the ecology of the bogs. Ella Barrett, Fiona Donohue and Paige McDonald, (all TY) did an analysis of the effectiveness of using the iPad in teaching Mathematics. This won a Highly Commended and a Display Award in the Social and Behavioural Sciences Section.
