Camross GAA club auction in the Mart Yard on the Rushin Road Mountrath on Saturday, January 26 from 12pm. To contribute items for the auction contact Fran Hogan at 087 9220990. After a successful 2013, the club looks forward to another great year in 2014.

CAMROSS CCÉ NEWS

CCÉ Camross under 12 members took part in the Galway Mummers Festival, held recently in New Inn, Co Galway. Although this festival has been running for 37 years, this is the first time that a Laois branch has taken part.

The venture proved very successful and a most enjoyable day was had by all. Congrats to Clíona Ní Dhomhnaill and Conall Ó Cnáimhín who received individual awards for their performances on the day.

CCÉ Camross wish to extend a heartfelt thanks to all those who supported their recent Christmas concert in Camross Hall.

Congrats

Congratulations to Camross GAA Scor representatives (U17 set dancers and ballad group) who have been selected to appear on Scor Encore on TG4, they will record their shows in the next few weeks.

Slieve Bloom Assoc

The Slieve Bloom Association next meeting on Thursday January 16 in the ICA Hall Mountmellick at 8.30pm. We are a group of people who aim to promote the Slieve Bloom Amenity Area, while protecting its unique landscape. If interested come to our next meeting, all are welcome. Happy New Year to all members and to those who support our trips, festivals and walks over the past year.

Late tom moore

The death took place recently of Tom Moore of Oberstown, Tara County Meath and formerly of Castleconnor, Mountrath and Camross.

The Moore family resided in the Slieve Bloom Mountains for many years before moving to Ballinakill where two of the family still remain. Tom and his brother Paddy joined the Garda Siochana in the fifties and Tom was posted in Fitzgibbon Street and later moved to Ballymun when promoted to the rank of sergeant then he transferred to the Royal County after he married Anne.

They reared a family of two girls and a boy. Tom was diagnosed with cancer some years ago and passed away a week before Christmas.

His funeral took place to the Church of the Immaculate Conception Rathfeigh and on the following morning requiem mass was celebrated for the repose of his soul and afterwards Tom was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.

Chief mourners are his wife Anne, son Peadar, daughters Edel and Triona, five grandchildren, brothers Paddy and Philip sister Maureen, son-in-law Alan, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews relatives and a large circle of friends in Meath and his native Laois.
