Active Retirement Group
The AGM of Camross Active Retirement took place on Sunday January 19 in the Community Hall. There was a small attendance of members, but all present agreed that we should keep going and hopefully we will get new members in 2014. Chairman Frank McGlynn thanked everyone for attending and mentioned the enjoyable trips we took in 2013.
Officers elected for 2014 were Honorary Member Rev Fr John Lalor, Chairman Frank McGlynn, Vice Chairperson Mary Higgins, Secretary Hannah Dooley, Treasurer Joan Hegarty, Assistant Treasurer Gladys Danne.
Any member is welcome to attend the monthly meetings, which take place on the 1st Wednesday of every month at 3pm in the Community Hall. Membership fee is €10 and is payable by Sunday March 2 to any member of the Executive Committee.
Votes of Sympathy were extended to the families who lost loved ones during 2013, especially on the death of Sadie Delaney who was a founding member of our group. The meeting ended with the usual prayer. Our next meeting takes place on Wednesday February 5 at 3pm.

Camross Community Dance will take place on Saturday February 1. Music by the Kelly Family
A meeting will take place on Thursday January 30 at 8pm in the Community Hall. Issues on the night to be discussed will include organising CCTV, looking after the elderly/vulnerable people of the community, and electing a new committee etc. A good attendance on the night is necessary to discuss these important issues.
Camross Juvenile GAA Club held a most enjoyable presentation and celebration night in the parish hall recently. Members from the U-8s to the U-16s panels were present on the night.
Juvenile chairperson Annette Breen welcomed young and old. She thanked all involved who had helped make the year a great success, particularly the parents and mentors.
Special mention went to the U-14 panel and their mentors Arien Delaney, Alan Cuddy, Tadhg Doran and Thomas Dunphy who won the county championship as well as the Féile competition.
CCÉ Awards Night
The Camross Comhaltas Awards Evening and Dinner Dance will take place on Friday February 21 in O’Loughlin’s Hotel, Portlaoise. A great night is to be had.
Congratulations to the Camross Set Dancers, Camross Ballad Group and the Instrumental Group from Mountrath who have all progressed to the live shows of Scór Encore, a competition on TG4 run by Adare Productions.
The three groups were invited to audition for the show following on from their success in Laois Scór na nÓg, The dates and times for the shows are not yet known, but we will inform you as soon as. The very best of luck to all involved.
Also, well done to Molly Donnery who represented Camross and Laois in the Solo Singing in Erins Isle on Saturday January 18.
