Gathabawn Loop Walk
Gathabawn Loop walk will be launched by Helen Carroll of Ear to the Ground on Sunday October 14. The walk leaves Gathabawn village at 11.45am and is suitable for adults and children over 12. People are advised to wear suitable clothings and footwear. Rerfreshments will be served in Mackeys for everyone afterwards. All are welcome.
Woodenbridge Paddlers Duathlon
The Woodenbridge Paddlers will hold their annual sponsored duatlon and cycle tour in aid of the Make Believers on Sunday October 7. The event will also incorporate part of Kilkenny River Festival. Proceedings will get underway from the Woodenbridge at 11.30am. A fun packed event which will include a Junior canoeing regatta with trophies for winners in u10, u13 and u17 boys and girls. This will be staged at the halfway point at the broken weir in Ballyragget at 2pm. Refreshments will be served here before continuing through Lisdowney to the finish in Cullahill where music and entertainment will be held in O”Connolls Bar. Stars In Your Eyes
Due to prior commitments of some of the world’s biggest superstars the date of the event has been changed to Saturday November 24. There was no Jackpot winner. Winners on the night were 30 euro Ann Lanigan 25 euro Bob and John 20 euro Mary O Leary. The lotto of October 8 will be held in Peadars Bar with a possible jackpot of 3250 euro. All tickets must be handed in before 9.30 pm on the night of the draw to be included in that jackpot.
Social dance classes will resume in St. Kieran’s Hall Johnstown on Wednesday night October 3 at 8 o’clock and every Wednesday until end of March 2013. Worlds Largest High Nellie Wheel
Durrow High Nellie cycling club, in association with Bob’s Bar and High Nellie .ie will attempt a world record for the largest high Nellie Wheel at the old bridge in Durrow on Sunday October 14 at 1.30 pm all are welcome, fancy dress in period costume would be encouraged.
Our Lady’s Meadow Parent’s Council are holding a Cabaret in Dec’s Bar on Saturday night October 6, featuring the band “The Whole Hog”. Admission is 5 euro. Tickets are available from the school, parents council and on the door. All proceeds will directly benefit the school and thus benefit our children. Your support would be greatly appreciated.
The Wooden bridge Paddlers are holding their Annual Charity Trip in aid of the Make Believers on Sunday October 7 starting at the Wooden bridge at 11.30 am.. Family day at the Broken weir Ballyragget from 2pm to 5pm. Presentation and party in O’Connell’s, Cullohill from 5.30 pm. All welcome.

Trails day walks
As part of National Trails Day next Sunday, October 7, three events are taking place in the Durrow area. A recreational cycle and paddle is on offer at Woodenbridge. The Duathlon Canoe/Cycle will set off from Woodenbridge at 11.30am. Bring your bike and meet at 11am to register, and canoes and buoyancy aids can be booked in advance, free of charge. Suitable for families with older children, the event lasts about three hours, finishing with music in O’Connell’s Bar in Cullahill. Call Michael G Phelan to find out more. Cullahill Mountain Walk. Meet at the Community Centre Cullahill at 2.30pm. Suitable for ages 12+ with a reasonable level of fitness, this is a 14km Grade A walk, lasting about 2.5 hours. It will traverse across Cullahill Mountain from where seven counties can be viewed before returning to O’Connell’s bar, Cullahill where refreshments, music and song will be provided, meeting with the Duathon group. Durrow Leafy Loop Walk. Meet at 2.00pm at the Castle Arms Hotel. This is a 4 hour walk for experienced hikers, led by Susan Lawlor. For more information see www.nationaltrailsday.ie
