Woodenbridge raft race

The Woodenbridge Paddlers will hold their sponsored Raft Race on Sunday January 26 starting from the Woodenbridge at 1.30pm with registration at 1pm. Prize winners in senior, junior and scouts sections. Junior and scouts rafts require one adult on board. Entry fee €35 per raft. Sponsors are also invited to display their log on competing rafts.

This event will aid the Woodenbridge Community Alert / Killermogh Church Window Fund. Raffle afterwards in Bob’s Bar. A raft building evening for all interested will be held on Saturday next at Newtown Mill at 2pm. For more information contact 087 2395357.

Whist Drive

The first whist drive of 2014 organised by the Killermogh Parish Union will be held on Thursday January 23 at 8.30pm in the Parochial Hall, Cork Road, Durrow. All are welcome, great night is assured.

Durrow Fadó Writers Group

People with a genuine interest in creative writing required to join the above group, initially to assist in writing a drama based on a specific episode in the history of Durrow, and subsequently to compile local data of a social and historical nature for future publications. Workshops are expected to commence in early February.

Enrolment night on Thursday January 23 at 7pm for prospective 1st year students and their parents.

Blood

Following a recent visit of the Irish Blood Transfusion service to Durrow the following donors received awards: silver, 10 donations, Declan Murphy, Tinweir, Durrow; gold, 20 donations, Ann Vaugh, Tinweir, Durrow, Eamonn Dohney, Graigueavoice, Cullohill.

A total of 131 attended the clinic including 13 new donors and 15 lapsed donors. Many thanks to everyone who attended the clinic.

Durrow IFA

A meeting of Durrow IFA will be held in Cullohill Community Centre at 8pm on Wednesday night January 22.

Guest speaker on the night is Paul Delaney, chairman of Laois Grain committee. All members are asked to attend.
