The lotto of August 25 will be on O’Connell’s Cullohill with possible jackpot of €17,300. All tickets must be handed in before 9.30pm on the night of the draw to be included in that jackpot.

Kayak

Calvin O’Brien is representing Ireland in the European Free style championship in September. Calvin is a member of the Laois Kayak and Canoe Club and is from Durrow.

With this in mind the club is holding a raffle with twelve good prizes with a value of €1,240. Tickets are on sale locally at €2 or three for €5. Your support will enable the club to purchase a competition model boat and much needed equipment for the members. Thank you in advance for your support. We wish Calvin every good wish in the Europeans.

18th Century Costumes

Do you have any costumes stashed away in your attic and if so, would you loan them to the White Lady Drama Group for their forthcoming production. We would be very appreciative indeed of any help in this regard. Please contact Anne Conroy 086 6079069.

Blood

The Irish Blood Transfusion Service will be in Durrow at the Castle Arms Hotel on Thursday August 21 from 5 pm to 8.30pm. Please come and donate blood as it plays a vital part in having essential blood supplies available to save lives. Please keep an hour of your time free on Thursday August 21 to give blood. We appeal to the younger members of the community to donate blood as it is good to give life to someone who is very ill.

Durrow Community Council

Durrow Community Council annual senior citizens’ outing will be on Saturday September 6. This year we are going to Dublin and the trip will include a visit to Collin’s Barracks, Trinity College and St James’ Gate. It will also include a meal in The Red Cow Hotel. Anyone wishing to book a seat on the trip can contact Eileen Keenan 086 0868017, Mary Walsh 086 3055157 or Mick Dunphy 087 7573099 as soon as possible. Deposit of €30 to be paid when booking.

St Tighearnachs Primary School

An information evening will take place in the school on Monday August 25. The new extension may be viewed at 8pm with meeting at 8.30pm. This is a wonderful opportunity for the local community to view the building before classes resume. Parents of pupils and members of the public are welcome to attend (adults only).
