The death took place on Thursday Janurary 31 of Mary Strong of Morette, after a long illness bravely borne. Mary who was predeceased by her husband Edward and is survived by her sons John, Eamon, Ivan and Sidney and daughters Caroline and Catriona and partner Hugh, grandchildren and great grandchild, and her seven sisters Margaret, Nora Ann, Lee, Eileen, Bridie, Kathleen and Theresa and brothers Paddy, John, Phil and Jimmy. She was also predeceased by her brothers Bertie, Tommy and Micheal. Having reposed at home where rosary was recited on Friday evening the funeral mass took place in St Paul’s Church Emo on Saturday Feburary 2. Celebrant Fr Walsh and Fr Dooley presided the funeral mass. Emo GAA club provided a gaurd of honor as did St Pauls Juvenile club and Emo Celtic Soccer Club. The death took place a couple of weeks ago of Joe Kiely of Mountrath. Joe was a forester in Emo in the early 60s. Joe was a member of Emo GAA junior team who won the junior championship in 1962, he was also on the panel of the 63 and 64 intermediate team. Joe is survived by his wife, two sons and one daughter.

Dinner Dance

Emo GAA are holding a presentation dinner dance in the Heritage Hotel Portlaoise next Saturday evening Feburary 16 at 7.30. Music by the Klassics. Tickets €30 can be obtained in the local shop in Emo, The Gate House in Emo or from Donna on 086 3183703 or Eamon on 087 2674869.

Church Gate Collection

Killenard Cemetery Committee are holding their Church gate collection at all Masses in Portarlington & Killenard on Saturday & Sunday February 16 & 17. Your support for the upkeep of the Cemetery would be much appreciated.

Community Games

Cross country and cross country relays u12 to u14 trials for will be held in February so keep an eye to emo notes in paper. Dualthlon for over 12 and u15 1400m run followed by 8k cycle followed by 1400m run you need to be fit for this one county date to be decided. Table Quiz u14 area quiz will be held in Rath in February.

Talent competition area finals on Friday, March 1 in Emo at 6.30pm. Choir u13 we have yet to find someone to manage this we will keep you posted.

Handwriting u10 only area final will take place on Wed, Feb 27 at 5pm in meeting room in Emo hall. Swimming final will take place in Portarlington pool on February 9 at 5.30pm 8pm €2 charge may incur in order to cover cost of pool.

U8 to u16. Gymnastics if you are interested please let us know as there is a set routine to be learned. Projects teams of 2 to 6 mixed or all boys or all girls for u11 title, “The greatest invention of all time”.u13 title,” Is the focus of underage sport based on taking part or winning?” u16 title, “Research and discuss the impact advertising and the media has on the sort of lifestyle choices young people make.

Please contact us regarding projects as there are a number of criteria that needs to included in the projects. Debating u14 team of 6 mixed 3 boys 3 girls titles will be given to those interested.

Please note that all children must be under age at July 31. For example U8 must be 8 after July 31, 2013. This applies for all age groups and you must live in Emo Rath areas.
