Mountmellick Drama Group is presenting ‘The Factory Girls’ by Frank McGuinness, directed by Shay Flannery in the comfortable surroundings of the Community Arts Centre on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, February 13/14/15.
‘The Factory Girls’ tells the story of five women who stage a lock-in at a shirt factory in County Donegal when faced with the threat of redundancy.
Ellen (Jessie Conroy), Una (Amy Bishop), Vera (Patricia Conroy, Rosemary (Ciara Finlay) and Rebecca (Heather Joyce) are five strong and independent women who take on the boss Ronan (Doug Mortimer) and the union rep Bonner (Joe Brennan).
Described as a truly realistic play filled with humour, charm, and staging, these “girls” may never get back their jobs, but their brief adventure has brought each of them the insight that will give them the courage to soldier on.
“Not factory woman, factory girls. Everybody here is a factory girl, factory girls never grow old and they don’t fade away.”
Curtains for ‘The Factory Girls’ go up at 8pm nightly. Tickets for the show are priced €10/concessions €5, and are available on the door.
