From Boston to New York

Participants in last year's event

On Sunday September 1 the Woodenbridge Paddlers will be travelling from Boston to New York, but they will not have to cross any oceans to get there, only jump in their canoes and kayaks and travel down some local rivers.

The annual charity paddle this year is being held in aid of the Cuisle Centre in Portlaoise and will get underway from the Boston Bridge on the River Erkina at 11am.

The paddlers will continue on by the Woodenbridge at 12 before coming into Durrow at 1.15pm. They will continue onto where the Erkina and the Nore meet at 1.40pm and then onto Tallyhoe Bridge at 2pm. The conclusion of the trip will be in New York at approximately 3.15pm.

There will then be some well earned refreshments for the participants. Paddlers of all levels are welcome to take part and support this worthy cause.

Organiser Michael G Phelan is looking forward to a big turnout on the day.

“We had a good day out recently and a bit of craic at our juvenille regatta with about 40 young lads taking part, and all their parents there as well so we are hoping for a big crowd next Sunday as well”.

In the past the paddlers have raised money for the Cuisle Centre as well as Dove House, disability in sport and the Make Believers.
