Fun on the slopes for Mountrath CS students.

Earlier this year, ten students from Mountrath Community School took part in a unique french school exchange programme to Chambery, France.

The group accompanied by two teachers flew to Lyon and then took a one hour journey to the mountains and Chambery.

When the group arrived they met with their exchange families, whom were so welcoming and friendly. The group were treated to an enthralling visit to the nearby historic city of Annecy, where they enjoyed the medieval castle, local markets, shops and restaurants.

One of the highlights for the group was an excursion to the local Alpine pistes, where they enjoyed crosscountry skiing. It was an experience of a lifetime for the students. Molly Donnery said that it was the first time that she ever braved the slopes and it was brilliant fun. She added: “we were so high up in the mountains and there was so much snow! It was an unforgettable experience”.

Katy White said: “We tried the downhill skiing and I loved it.

One of the highlights for Ruth Delaney was a chance to try rock climbing. She said that it was “hard at first, but you soon get used to it”.

An integral part of this educational and cultural experience for the students was the experience of school life in the secondary school in Chambery. The students enjoyed some class time, a treasure hunt around Chambery, group work with their exchange students and a party at the school. Ruth Delaney said “that the irish students were so impressed with an english play the french students performed at the party”.

Katy White said that staying with the french host families was a brilliant experience. All of the students thoroughly enjoyed the trip.
