Funds can help communities

Community groups should avail of the €90,000 available to Laois County Council as part of the Public Area Enhancement Scheme according to Cllr Tom Mulhall.

“It is very positive that Laois has been allocated €90,000 in funding, particularly as this money can go a long way to help manage public spaces in local areas,” Cllr Mulhall said.

The Fine Gael councillor said the money would help communities and tourism and will certainly help communities.

“Some of the work that could take place locally as a result of the funding is additional support for TidyTowns groups, improvement of public parks and walking areas, cleaning up graveyards and making derelict buildings safe. I very much hope that the local authority will work in co-operation with community-based groups to improve our public spaces” said the Portarlington/Graiguecullen area candidate

He said the grants is for new projects which require 25% matching council funding.
