SOLEMN NOVENA

The Ninth Solemn Novena begins on Monday 05 May and will run for nine consecutive nights. We invite people during Lent to place their petitions in the petition boxes in St Clare’s. During our Novena, through the prayers of our Faith Community and the intercession of Our Lady we will ask Jesus to relieve whatever burdens we carry. The Theme for this year’s Novena is “Our Faith – Our Story” and each night of the Novena a guest speakers will speak on this theme. Below is a list of the full programme of our guest speakers for the Novena.

ANTI-BULLYING WEEK

St Fiacc’s N.S., Graiguecullen, held its first Anti-Bullying Week recently. The main focus of the event was to highlight the negative impact that bullying has on children and to help the pupils to develop the tools to deal with bullying in a safe and mature way.

St Patrick’s PARADEs

Killeshin Parade will leave the community centre at 9.30 am for 10.15am Mass in Holy Cross. The Graiguecullen Parade will leave the Town Park at 11am to arrive for 11.30am Mass in St Clare’s. All clubs and organisations are invited to be part of the celebration and to make the parades as colourful as possible. Both Parades will take place on St Patrick’s Day.

LOURDES DRAW

The Annual Draw will be held in the Thatch on next Saturday 15 March. Can all promoters please make a last push this week to sell their cards and return them as soon as possible.

KILLESHIN FC

Recent Lotto results, numbers drawn were 02, 13, 15 and 21. There was no winner. €25 lucky dip winners were Mick Dargan, Deirdre Whelan, Ella and Cara and Mary Dermody. Seller’s prize went to Stefan Comerford. Jackpot now stands at €4,600. Whist every Wednesday night in Old Den beside Killeshin Hall at 8.30pm, beginners at 7.30pm and its all in aid of Killeshin Soccer Club. Contact Antoinette for details 085 7483893.

PARISH BINGO

Bingo every Tuesday night at 8.30pm in St Fiacc’s Hall. Great money to be won on the night. Jackpot €1,220 in 44 numbers. Check on double number and win €2,070.

MAY SUNDAY 2014

It’s the 130 anniversary of the founding of the Holy Cross Sodality. It’s the 70 anniversary of the revival of the Procession from Graiguecullen which the Pipe Band will lead for the 50 year in a row. It’s all on Sunday 04 May.

Bishop Denis Nulty has accepted an invitation from the Holy Cross Sodality to walk in the Procession which leaves from St Clare’s at 10.30am and celebrate 12 noon Mass in Holy Cross Church. Everyone is invited to be part of this very special occasion by walking with us.

CONFIRMATION

There will be special Masses this Wednesday 12 March in St Clare’s at 7.30pm and on Thursday 13 March at 7.30pm in Holy Cross. At these Masses the children preparing for Confirmation will make their pledge and will also nominate the charity to whom they will pledge a percentage of their Confirmation money. Bishop Denis Nulty will celebrate the Mass in Holy Cross on Thursday.

ST VINCENT DE PAUL

The Society of St Vincent de Paul “Vincent’s “ shop at 46 Tullow Street Carlow urgently needs donations of good quality clothes, small furniture items, bric-a-brac and household goods. Donations will be gratefully received in the shop Monday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm. The Society would like to thank everyone for supporting the shop during the past year.

K FACTOR

K Factor Talent Competition is back. Qualifying dates are March 22 and 29 in Killeshin Hall at 8pm. Final will be held on Saturday April 05. All entries before next Saturday 15 March.

ST CLARE’S SALE

Sale of Bric a Brac in aid of St Clare’s Hospitality, Food Kitchen, in Parish Centre on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 March. Your support would be most appreciated.

Our food appeal continues during Lent. Presently we are giving out up to 120 food parcels a week. We are surviving because of donations and the huge number of volunteers helping out. To help make the Lenten Season more meaningful we invite people to leave non-perishable food items in the baskets at the church doors and in the Parish Centre and these will be used to help make up our food parcels.

PRE-BAPTISM MEETING

The next meeting for parents who are presenting their child for Baptism will be held on Monday 07 April from 7 to 8.30pm in the Parish Centre. All parents who are having their child baptised during April and May are asked to attend.

CORK TO CARLOW CYCLE

The 36 Annual Cork to Carlow Cycle in aid of County Carlow Wheelchair Association will take place on the 14 and 15 June with further details later. All monies raised stays in Carlow and County to support local services.

TALK IT OVER AGM

Talk it Over suicide and general bereavement support service will hold its AGM at its premises in Castle Hill House, Castle Hill, Carlow on Tuesday the 25 of February at 8pm.

EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS COURSE

A course for new Eucharistic Ministers will start during Lent. Anyone interested should contact the Parish Office at 0599141833. If you are interested in finding out more about this special ministry you are welcome to attend the course. No obligation to commit.

CARLOW SPECIAL OLYMPICS

Carlow Special Olympics Club encourages everybody to participate in the St Laurence O’Toole Run4Life 5K or 10K on Saturday 15 March at 11 am. This is a fun community event for people of all ages and abilities and we hope that as many people as possible will participate and blow out the winter cobwebs.

Carlow Special Olympics Club is continuously looking for volunteers. Do you have an hour or two to spare, once a week or once a month or even just occasionally, then they would love to hear from you. BOCCIA PROGRAMME

Boccia is a competitive sport similar to bowls. It is an inclusive sport that may be enjoyed by people of all abilities. It’s on Thursdays in St Fiacc’s Hall from 5 to 6pm for 10 to 18 year olds. PARISH PILGRIMAGE TO LOURDES
