WALK FOR FUN

The County Carlow Women’s Network are running their Walk for Fun on Saturday May 24 10am sharp, registration from 9.45, from The Leighlinbridge Parish Centre. It’s an 8km looped river and countryside walk from Leighlinbridge to Bagenalstown with options of a lift half way if you feel like it. Free refreshments provided. CONFIRMATION

Next Saturday, 24 May the children from St Fiacc’s NS will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation at 11am in St Clare’s Church. We ask God’s blessings on the young people and their families and we thank their teachers and all who have helped them as they become full members of the Christian community.

SOLEMN NOVENA

The Ninth Solemn Novena has begun on Monday nights and will run for nine consecutive nights. The Theme for this year’s Novena is “Our Faith – Our Story” and each night of the Novena a guest speakers will speak on this theme. The fourth Novena night is on Monday 26 May, Magnus MacFarlane, Founder of Mary’s Meals, will speak.

Killeshin Community Development is going to erect outside free library boxes in the Killeshin area initially with more area’s being considered. These will work on an honesty policy of borrowing a book. We require adult and children fiction and non-fiction books in good condition. Any donations of books can be left into the Den, Killeshin

COMMUNITY GAMES

Athletics training takes place on Tuesday and other evenings in St Fiacc’s School at 6.30pm. Any child interested in representing our area in swimming under 8 to under 16. Under 8’s and 10’s must be capable of swimming one full length, Under 12’s and upwards must be capable of swimming two full lengths of pool. Please contact Paul 087 6121666 before Tuesday 27 May. KNOCK

Kildare and Leighlin Diocesan Pilgrimage to Knock Shrine is on Sunday 01 June led by Bishop Denis Nulty with the Diocesan Choir. Director will be Fr Liam Lawton. Ceremonies in the Basilica begin at 2.30pm. The Bishop wrote “Following the outstanding diocesan response to the recent Chrism Mass, I invite all parishioners across the Diocese to join with me in pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Knock. I trust it will be both a joyful and uplifting experience for all of us who travel, under the guidance and protection of Our Blessed Lady. KILLESHIN YOUTH CAFÉ

We are now seeking Adult and Teen volunteers who will work with a group of up to 30 teenagers in our Community Centre one evening each week. Upcoming Child Protection course will be held in Portlaoise Youth Cafe on 26 May from 6.30pm to 9.30pm. Volunteer leaders require Garda Vetting and Child Protection Training. The Irish Cancer Society is offering a free transport service to patients undergoing chemotherapy treatments in the following hospitals: The Mater, Tullamore, Blanchardstown, St James’s and Tallaght. TABLE QUIZ

A fun table-quiz will be held in The Irishman’s on Wednesday night next May 21 at 8.30pm. The quiz is part of a fund raising initiative by UCD student Peter Morris of Maple Court who will be travelling to India in June as part of UCD Volunteers Overseas. While he is there, Peter will be working with and supporting projects for underprivileged children. This is Peter’s second year to participate in this rewarding project. All support for the quiz will be greatly appreciated.
