Students, staff parents and board of management members gathered in glorious sunshine last Thursday afternoon, at Gaelscoil an tSlí Dala, Ballaghmore to see the school’s first Green Flag raised.

The flag awarded for the theme of litter and waste management was presented to the students two weeks earlier at a presentation by An Taisce in Athlone. It is the culmination of two years of hard work by students and staff in raising awareness of litter and waste management. The school band Na hArd Ríthe entertained the gathering before the ceremony. Róise Nevin welcomed all present and thanked all for working so hard to achieve the flag. A short thanksgiving prayer ceremony with Fr Tom Corbett PP and Rev Adrian Hewson took place and then the Green Flag was raised by both clergy which signified the dual denomination of the school. Liam O’Neill on behalf of the board of management commended the school on its achievement, and Tadgh Quinlan representing the parents association thanked all those who had worked hard to get the flag.
