Heywood student Lisa Daly has qualified for the Junk Kouture Regional Finals with her amazing outfit “Miss Cantastic”.
The competition challenges students to create extravagant but wearable couture designs to compete in spectacular catwalk finals across the country. Lisa was one of only 200 selected out of 2000 entries.
The TY student will model her creative design on Friday March 14 at the University Concert Hall in Limerick for a panel of judges which includes TV presenter Darren Kennedy and former Miss World Rosanna Davidson.
Houtfit was made from hundreds of cans collected from friends and family. She cut out hundreds of circles for the bodice, wove strips for the shoes and used intricate cutting techniques to create shoulder pads and flower patterns. The lining for the dress is her old Timahoe NS primary school uniform.
“I wanted to transform a worn, grey primary school uniform into a bright, beautiful dress, linking past, present and future through regenerating and recycling,” she said.
