MISSION ALIVE QUIZ

The annual Mission Alive table quiz is on Thursday December 5 at 9.30pm in the Druid Bar with Michael Linehan. All proceeds to the Orphan Project in Lusaka in Zambia. Raffle prize donations welcome.

LINE DANCING

Line dancing classes on Weds December 4 from 8pm to 9pm in ICA hall. Classes break for Christmas on December 4 and resume in January. Contact Dolores 086 2664716.

ST VINCENT DE PAUL

S V de P annual collection at all masses on Saturday and Sunday December 7 & 8.  Please give generously to help those in our parish who are in need during these difficult times.  

PTAA

Annual regional mass on Wednesday December 4 at 7pm in Portlaoise parish office, followed by the monthly meeting. The four schools in the parish who are entering the art competition (5th & 6th classes) should submit their entries by December 12.

ADVENT RETREAT

Three Holy Hours on Wednesdays December 4, 11 & 18 from 7pm to 8pm in St Joseph’s Church with prayer, readings, reflections and a guest speaker. All welcome.

FLAG DAY

Annual flag day for the Christmas tree, Santa’s visit and fuel for senior citizens on Saturday December 7. All support welcomed.

BOOK LAUNCH

John Joe Dunne’s book ‘Sparks from the Embers’ (a journey through a changing Ireland) is launched in the Macra Hall on Friday December 6 at 8.30pm. All welcome.

5K SANTA DASH

Christmas themed (fancy dress or Santa hat) 5k on Sunday December 8, meeting at 9.15am at Supervalu car park. Walkers, joggers and runners welcome. Adult: €5. Children free.

GYMNASTICS CLUB

The club are holding a sale of work and wheel of fortune in the YM hall during the Christmas fair to raise funds. All welcome. Donations welcome, call into YM on Saturday afternoon December 7 in the YM or contact Mary 086 7914933.

LATE KATHLEEN WESTMAN

The sudden death of Kathleen Westman (neé Carey) of Connolly St and formerly Clooneyquin Geashill at the Midlands Regional Hospital Portlaoise on Wednesday November 20 occasioned much grief. Kathleen was a popular and highly respected member of the community, active in many organisations, ICA, PTAA and Community Care. Her passing is sadly regretted by all who knew her. Remains reposed in Moloney’s Funeral Home until removal to St Joseph’s Church on Friday morning. Requiem mass was celebrated at noon with burial afterwards to St Joseph’s cemetery. The deepest sympathy of the community is extended to Kathleen’s husband Tom, sons Padraigh and Brian, daughters Eilish, Mairead and Claire, family, relatives and friends.

LATE ANN REDDIN

There was much regret at the death of Ann (Nan) Reddin (neé Brophy) of Bridge St on Sunday November 24 at Droimnin Nursing Home. Nan was predeceased by her husband Michael. A well known and respected member of the community, Nan will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Remains reposed at her home until removal on Tuesday morning to St Joseph’s Church. Requiem mass was celebrated at noon with burial afterwards to St Joseph’s cemetery. The sincere sympathy of the community is extended to Nan’s daughter Carmel, sons Michael, Danny and Paddy, family, relatives and friends.
