BISHOP NULTY TO VISIT

Bishop Denis Nulty will visit Mountmellick next weekend, January 25/26, as he continues to get to know the diocese and meet people in the different parishes.  He will attend the 7.30pm mass on Saturday January 25, the 10.30am mass in Clonaghadoo and the noon mass in the parish church on Sunday January 26.  As always all are welcome to our masses and to meet Bishop Nulty afterwards.

‘YOU SHALL BE MY WITNESSES’

The parish preparation programme for confirmation ‘You Shall Be My Witnesses’ begins during the coming week.  Thanks to the schools for making rooms available and to the caretakers for their help.  Thanks also to the parent leaders who will work with the pupils.  Good luck everyone.

BLOOD DONATION

The mobile clinic will attend at St Patrick’s BNS on Thursday January 23 from 5pm to 8.30pm. All donors are encouraged to attend.

COMMUNITY CARE

DANCE LESSONS

Social/ballroom dance lessons for adult beginners and improvers every Tuesday from 8pm to 10pm in Mountmellick GAA Clubhouse beginning on Tuesday January 21. €8 per person. Please being a partner. Contact 087 4178311 for details.

CAMERA CLUB

Camera Club resumes with a new members night on Wednesday January 22 at 8pm in MDA. The club caters for all skill levels from beginners to very experienced and every future photographer will benefit from joining the club. We look forward to meeting new members and making new friends. The club meets in the MDA every two weeks. All welcome along to see what is planned for this 25th anniversary year.

ladies running club

Mountmellick Panthers have hit the ground running for 2014, with lots of new ladies joining both the running and walking groups. The groups meet in the MDA carpark on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings, leaving at 7,30pm sharp to run/walk / jog 5km around the town. Lots of events during the year, come along for some exercise and a lot of fun. See facebook.

FLY -TYING CLASSES

The Angling Association is holding fly-tying classes for all levels from Tuesday January 14 in the Arts Centre from 7.30pm to 9pm for approx. five weeks. All welcome.

Mary O’Rourke talk

As part of library events as an Europe Direct Information Centre, a special talk with keynote speaker Mary O’ Rourke will take place on Monday January 27 at 7pm in the Killeshin Hotel. Midlands 103 presenter Aisling O’Rourke will chair the event and will interview Mary O’Rourke, former Fianna Fail TD and minister. A panel will discuss ‘Ireland’s future in Europe and the World’. READING CHALLENGE

The children’s junior non-fiction reading challenge suitable for ages 7 to12 is now up and running. Call into the library for more details and to sign up.

KNITTING GROUP

Knitting circle meets every Tuesday from 10.30 to noon in the library. Bring along your needles and wool and join us for a cuppa and a chat.

EXHIBITION

Geashill Art Group will exhibit their paintings in the library gallery until the end of January 2014. All are welcome.

LATE TERESA O’SULLIVAN

The death occurred on Sunday January 12 of Teresa (Cis) O’Sullivan of 10 Brock View and formerly of St Joseph’s Terrace. Remains reposed at her daughter Doris Monaghan’s home at Brock View until removal on Monday evening to St Joseph’s Church. Requiem mass was celebrated at noon on Tuesday with burial afterwards to St Joseph’s cemetery. Cis was predeceased by her husband Johnny. The sincere sympathy of the community is extended to Cis’ daughters Mary, Doris and Bernie, her sons John, Eddie and David, family, relatives and friends.

late Bridie FITZPATRICK

The death occurred on Friday January 10 of Bridie Fitzpatrick (nee Gorman), Dangans , Peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Bridie (Bridget) was beloved wife of the late Tom, and mother to the late Lily.

Remains reposed at her residence with removal at 6pm on Saturday evening to St Paul’s Church, Emo. Requiem Mass was celebrated on Sunday morning followed by interment in the New Cemetery, Emo. The sincere sympathy of the community is extended to Bridie’s daughter Marie, sons, John, Pat, Tom, Joe, and Kevin, daughters-in-law, son-in-law, family, relatives and friends.

Mountmellick Drama group present “The Factory Girls” by “Frank McGuinness” as their 2014 production on 13, 14, 15th February at Mountmellick Community Arts Centre.
