class of ‘89 Reunion

A meeting is being held to organise a reunion for the St Mary’s College Leaving Cert Class of ‘89, this year being the 25th anniversary. All welcome to O’Dempsey’s Bar on Friday, February 7 at 8pm.

ladies running club

The Mountmellick Panthers meet in the MDA carpark every Monday, Wednesday and Friday evening, with both running and walking groups leaving at 7,30pm sharp for a 5km circuit of the town. Lots of events planned for 2014, free to join.

Mens running club

The Mountmellick Road Runners helps males of all fitness levels to achieve their individual targets, be it a Couch to 5k or a marathon. Meet at the MDA on Tuesday and Thursday at 7pm, and 10am Sunday mornings. All welcome to join.

PANTO TIME

This year Macra’s production ‘Jack & the Beanstalk’ will be staged from Thursday February 20 to Sunday February 23 in the Macra Hall. A great night’s family entertainment.

Congratulations Gemma, Sharon, Shane and Norman who came second in the county round of Question Time and proceed to the finals. COMHALTAS

Well done to all members who played at mass on Sunday January 19. Our next mass will be 9am on St Patrick’s Day. Annual Concert is on Friday March 28 in the Macra Hall. Will our musicians who are members of GAA consider Scór na Paistí in April, open to all primary school children. The Laois Fleadh is on the first weekend of June in Abbeyleix. We encourage all our musicians, singers and comhrá members to enter in the individual, duets and trio competitions.

LATE TOMMY GORMAN

The sudden death occurred on Friday January 17 of Tommy Gorman of Station House, Garoon at St James’ Hospital. Remains reposed in Moloney’s Funeral Home from Monday until removal to St Joseph’s Church on Tuesday evening. Requiem mass was concelebrated at noon on Wednesday with burial afterwards to St Joseph’s cemetery. The sincere sympathy of the community is extended to Tommy’s wife Bridie, family, relatives and friends.

LATE MARTIN COMERFORD

The sudden death occurred on Sunday January 19 of Martin Comerford at the home of his niece Kathleen Payne and her husband PJ at 10 Bayview. Remains reposed in Moloney’s Funeral Home until removal to St Joseph’s Church on Tuesday morning. Requiem mass was celebrated at noon with burial afterwards to St Joseph’s cemetery.
